In this house we believe: Oklahoma-Texas is the Red River Shootout. Florida-Georgia is the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Oregon-Oregon State is the Civil War. Kansas-Missouri is the Border War. BYU-Utah is the Holy War. And Georgia-Georgia Tech is Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.

Tomorrow's college football slate 🤝 NYC's alumni bar scene
Reminiscing on PSU heartbreaks of the 2010s has me thinking about where I watched many of those losses and what a sleeper elite college football town NYC is. Every college that you can think of has an alumni group with a watch party in a bar somewhere, and you can walk between all of them, bar to bar to bar...

Lightly productized what me and the boys used to do Friday night/Saturday morning scouting out all of the best CFB matchups and alumni bars to catch them at

Shout out to the Amazon driver who was about two houses ahead of us for all of trick-or-treating

The incessant get out the vote texts here in NH have me ready to throw my phone in a ravine. Happy Halloween!

The John Deere sponsorship on the field at Iowa is so good — maybe the best field sponsorship in college football. Right up there with Wisconsin’s Culver’s jersey patches.

The elites don’t want you to know this but you can just crack open the Halloween candy a few nights early to pick at the good stuff instead of waiting for the dregs that the trick-or-treaters avoided.

Coming from a PA family and growing up in central MD, one of the biggest surprises moving to NH has been how sparse wrestling is (especially where we’re building up north). And I’m sad to see it at the bottom of this list. Because if we’re talking about sports that set you up for success, wrestling from age seven up through college is the single thing I’d credit above all else for making me who I am today. And I know many other exceptionally high performers who would agree.
Since 2019, tennis is up 72% among kids 6–12. Golf is up 55%. Parents finally figured out which sports lead to success and can be played for life.

(That said, picking up rowing in college after one too many concussions in wrestling + filling my PE requirement with a self-made “country club concentration” of golf, tennis, and sailing also made for a well-rounded recreational repertoire for later life)

Finally gave my college football chaos tracker the facelift it’s needed for close to a decade (time flies 😳)…

Was going through boxes on Friday, found my favorite old Penn State shirt packed away, thought to myself "Oh I love this shirt! Why'd I ever pack it away?", pulled it out, and wore it for the Wisconsin game. And now I'm remembering why I'd packed it away... It's cursed.

Or the time that I was dragged to the UT bar, wallowing in #4 Penn State's just-completed choke job against Minnesota, only to leave the bar in a burnt orange "I [Longhorn logo] NY" shirt courtesy of The Texas Exes xitter.gq/bdharva/status/2104937…

Nov 9, 2019: @ #17 Minnesota (L 31–26) It's time to break the curse. There's no way we're losing to Minnesota. We're 8-0. We're in the top 4 of the first CFP rankings. My friends and I run into my cousin at Mercury West, where we watch the loss in stunned silence. (They then drag me to Stout, the UT bar, afterward and get me something to cover up the now thoroughly cursed shirt)

It's been a while since I've been back in NYC for one of these days, but when I find myself away from home on a college football Saturday, I still look up the local alumni bars, and jump at the chance to make some new friends bonding over the sport we love.
