I’m pretty proud of this. It represents roughly six months of my work and I’m hopeful that it will get the conversation started on what’s next for DevOps.
More to come!

Here is a quick demo using the gh CLI to ssh into a codespace, using neovim with copilot to write a whole Go method in the cli/cli repo.

The other day at the car wash I pulled out a chromebook and resumed working on a project via Codespaces, using the devcontainer definition I'd initially created locally on my PC. It Just Worked.

There's not much that makes smile me in dev world right now, but the whole Github ▶ Web View ("." from the repo page) ▶ Codespaces ▶ Local VSCode connected to Codespace ▶ Devcontainer ▶ Codespace from Github project portability cycle has been bringing me a lot of pleasure.

Thanks to the hard work of the Codespaces team, GitHub engineers can now bootstrap their dev environments in the cloud in <10 seconds (35gb image 😱).
Today we're making Codespaces available to more teams to move their own development to the cloud.
I helped lead the github.com migration from local macOS dev to Codespaces and went from skeptic to believer along the way; cloud-based development is the future.

All other things being equal, avoid "strategic" investors. What that word "strategic" means is that they have ulterior motives that are unlikely to be aligned with yours.

Ruby 2.6.2 is a solid upgrade over Ruby 2.5! Highly recommend, slightly better ruby heap usage than 2.5, 2-4% improvement in our median page view, ~3% less CPU usage for Discourse. "standard14 = 2.6.2, standard_14a = 2.5.5". Same machine, same workload, different containers.

This technique also survives twitter's thumbnailer :P
