While it's a powerful map, not including the buses on the 1984 map is A Choice, one that I'm not comfortable with!
In “The Power Broker,” Caro says, “When RM came to power in NYC in 1934, the city’s mass transportation system was probably the best in the world. When he left power in '68 it was quite possibly the worst.” While improved since, the legacy of RM's assault on transit is still felt

I also want to apologize for breaking our OTP (On Time Performance) yesterday. We had to delay some of our trains to give a way to #RailForceOne. It was painful for me and my team, but I had to do that. So only 90% of our trains arrived on time yesterday. I apologize. – at Ukraine

something I noticed Up North was that almost every town had good public bathrooms, this was a particularly nice one in downtown Manistee

On the flip side, by refusing to take any street space, the MTA has created brittleness in the Lorimer St. L stations elevators – rather than going straight from platform to street, there is an intermediate mezzanine-to-street elevator, introducing another failure point

I think this is missing the point. The whole idea was to intercept drivers around Center City so that the streets inside could be vibrant, livable, and human-oriented. This is exactly what Euro cities do, coincidentally - Kahn’s version was just scaled to the actual need.
Replying to @pushtheneedle
second, louis kahn’s plan for philadelphia was a ring of hideous parking garages that connect drivers with transit to traverse the center city cars absolutely ruined our brains

Wouldn't it be nice to live in a city where getting around on public transportation was seamless? ow.ly/Giom50MWWVJ

This Day in Labor History: February 20, 1893. The Philadelphia and Reading Railroad went into receivership. This was the first step toward the Panic of 1893. Let's talk about the horror of the Panic and the following depression on the working class!

From the article: the AmeriStarRail folks bid $1 on the new Acela RFP on the premise they would take over procurement with $5B with "private investors"? So weird

The space age architecture of South San Francisco never disappoints. This is also the only station without ads, which adds to the out-of-this-world vibes 🚃🚃

Overnight speeding is the major driver of traffic deaths and approximately zero US cities are doing anything about it
NYC drivers know the exact hours when the cameras are allowed to issue tickets, and speed ≈10x less during those times.
