Letterboxd already has a Year in Review, but I just hate it. Same screen, same design, over and over. For people who love films, sharing their thoughts, discussing what they watched and all that, I think it feels like a mandatory thing rather than an experience. Spotify is very successful at this. It can make you feel unique in a beautiful way. I wanted to have that feeling for films too. So I built Movies Wrapped -> movieswrapped.com Scraping was not as easy as I thought it would be, so right now it is built around your Letterboxd zip file. You can download it directly from the site and upload it to Movies Wrapped. This also means it does not really work on mobile right now, which is a huge downer. But when I run into bottlenecks like this, I usually try reaching out to other people. Two is more than one, and there are probably people out there who can solve things I cannot. That is also why I want to make Movies Wrapped open source. I want this thing to grow over time in ways I probably cannot even imagine myself. There is also a very real chance Letterboxd could make this difficult, since they explicitly say: "At this time we are not granting access for data-analysis, visualization or recommendation projects..." But I still wanted to try my luck because I genuinely think Letterboxd does almost nothing with this side of the product. There is so much interesting stuff you can do with people's film history, taste, habits and the way they experience cinema. I just wanted to see what that could look like.
