Another way to think about Trump announcement today: If he increased US diesel imports from Canada by 4%, he would gain as much fuel as from this Russia deal. But the Canadians are global super-villains, so who wants to buy from them when you could enrich Putin instead?

These humanitarian nightmares have displaced an estimated 114 million in 2023–36 million of whom are refugees, fleeing across borders. In 2024, an estimated 300 million people across the globe will need humanitarian assistance and protection.
Record numbers of people were forced from their homes, fleeing violence, insecurity, and danger from the Sahel to Afghanistan and Yemen to the DRC, Myanmar, and Somalia, to the utter devastation and killing we are witnessing in Gaza.
Sitting in the Board meeting for Women's Refugee Commission today and reflecting on the turmoil we are seeing globally. This year the drivers of displacement—conflict, poverty, and climate change—continue to converge, pushing emergency needs and human suffering to historic highs.
