Insiden ini bermula dari upaya aparat TNI menurunkan atribut Bulan Bintang yang dikibarkan warga saat perayaan Maulid Nabi di sebuah musala. Situasi kemudian berujung pada gesekan hingga tembakan ke arah kerumunan warga.
