It’s Indie bookstore day and I am purchasing my third gift copy of @csittenfeld ‘s Romantic Comedy from @eastcitybooks because this combination of book and provenance is the warmest gift I can give to a friend who is taking care of my kids OVERNIGHT.

This was one of my all time favorite conversations -- taped or no! -- and I look forward to continuing it in the future, in person with @lindaholmes and @Bedatri and a bottle of something sparkly.

Another gutting loss for NPR — Austin is a powerhouse of a reporter, a data genius, a delight to edit, and a font of important investigative ideas. Personally and professionally appalled by the young talent that is walking out of our newsroom, and programming.
Off to buy some @AZLottery tickets because my luck is HOT today! The U.S. is in a period of fewer #layoffs, but the #NPRLayoffs still found me! Currently accepting all offers in #DataJournalism #OpenToWork #rstats #pythonprogramming

Chiara is one of the most talented reporters I’ve ever worked with and one of the MOST invigorating and inspiring to edit. This is devastating to me, and to NPR.
I was laid off @NPR as part of the massive cuts. I loved the i-team and wanted to stay for years, but here we are. Please let me know if you're looking for a multimedia, bilingual reporter w/ experience investigating environment, healthcare, tech, immigration & criminal justice.

Great news for Steve, but also me, because CNN makes Anderson and Andy’s NYE live show which is my favorite in all the land.

One of my children just asked me the ranks and positions of everyone on the USS Enterprise, specified the crew they were asking about, and honestly this is the moment for which I have waited eleven years.

This really was one of my very favorite episodes to record; made me love the experience of watching this series that much more! This is 100% what a conversation with me and Linda sounds like... be it in studio, restaurant, elevator, edit booth. A joy!

This is such a terrific obit. It makes me nostalgic for a time I don't even remember. And I wouldn't have met Steve without him!

Another important thing to remember about Salman Rushdie is he went through everything he did for decades, and did not emerge on the other end as a reactionary psychopath. He obviously wasn’t religious, but came out the other end of that experience not wanting to ban Islam or…

From my colleague Mo, this is fascinating.
I spent the past 15 days in Eastern Europe, in my home country of Bulgaria, and what struck me is how much Kremlin’s talking points have permeated not only the political discourse, but people’s psyche. Why should anyone care about a small country? Because it's a case study.🧵

Related to the conversation on equity in publishing, I hope as an industry we reconsider which topics we think of as “hard.” I can, for instance, think of any number of important, good books having to do with abortion rights I had to pass on bc “abortion books are hard.”

Members of NPR’s Investigative unit past and present met at IRE last night (a lot of colleagues at once for 2022), and it was delightful. @Jingnan_Huo @a_fast @RobertBenincasa @MEvstatieva @hberkes @ndm_visuals @jaclynmdiaz #IRE22

Resurfacing @sarahmccammon ‘s earlier reporting, all of which is indispensable in light of the Dobbs ruling. I urge you to listen to this.

Earlier this year, I went to TX to meet a woman and her OBGYN and tell her story of being refused termination during a miscarriage at 19 wks under SB8. Another OB told me about a rape victim she treated who rushed to get an abortion before the cutoff: 4/ npr.org/2022/02/28/108353640…

I had such a great time talking to the incredibly charming Ottessa Moshfegh at Sixth and I synagogue last night. I woke up thinking I might have dreamed it, and yet this lovely person captured a photo of both of us gesturing wildly! It was a joy.
This is Ottessa Moshfegh
