If you like your spheres to be shiny there is the povray option: > ase convert myfile.pdb myfile.pov > povray myfile.pov

Indeed, from the command line it's just "ase convert myfile.pdb myfile.png" It doesn't do the fancy protein multiscale ribbon things, but for a simple atomistic picture of a molecule it works.

I have a Minirig 3 battery-powered bluetooth speaker, which is not the cheapest but sounds good, has other uses and is running via a headphone interface in the "DIY support eurorack". I lie the idea of a sacrificial Bluetooth layer...

Made some tweaks to the synth DIY station: Raspberry Pi Pico installed and powered! Figuring out audio will have to wait another day... annoyingly the audio library is pretty much undocumented and doesn't support my SPI DAC so may need to start from scratch.

Behind are some Eurorack modules (which supply power, input signals and allow output signals to be listened to) and an oscilloscope for viewing voltages and waveforms.

At the bottom right are some cable glands; these support multi-core cables that run to a patchbay/interface, and connect to a DIY active breakout panel. This avoids trailing cables at the front, and/or chunkier interface modules eating up rack space.

Dunno about "built", but I put rails and power from @synthracks into a cabinet from Ikea's living room range, goes nicely with my other furniture! Depth is just right for DIY modules. (Just don't look at the back, there are screws poking through...)

These are a standard height to fit the rails, with black and silver panels adorned with knobs, switches and sockets. When assembled, this will make a modular synthesiser.

I'm attending #ICNS2022 remotely so if you want to talk about inelastic neutron scattering... well to be honest you can get in touch whenever, but I have a talk on Wednesday at 17.40 and I'll be running on Argentinian time for the next few days!
