JK Rowling. What a hero she is. She even bends over backwards to be kind to those poor deluded freaks who seem honestly to believe they really are women. But she rightly goes after those in positions of influence who “behaved as though women’s rights were out-dated and even meaningless. Thought of the day: I’ve written for a lot of major publications, but the New Statesman was by far the worst. From being ignored after filing to deadline, and butchered edits that ruined the final piece, and rubbish money, the entire process was unpleasant.

OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.
