How to choose a reliable aptamer for biosensor development? We put our perspective of this problem in an article in @ACS_Sensors. The first step is to go back to the original SELEX paper and the last step is to do in-house validation. pubs.acs.org/ascefj/article-…
Glad to share our GFP aptamers @angew_chem . We used methods for small molecules to proteins, all homogeneous assays, fluorescence polarization, CD, NMR, effect of metal ions, pH, mutation, truncation and using GFP variants. Nice NMR from @Ruihuangchem

Congratulations to Nathania and Amira for successfully defending their Master's thesis on this Friday afternoon 👏👏
Our anti-docking paper is now published @ChemBioChem . Not against the technology, but the current workflow for aptamers is fundamentally problematic, resulting in wrong predictions in each case that we can verify. Open access, check it out

Check out our Nature Sensors comment. Rigorous binding assays should be done before developing biosensors, and apparent Kd from biosensor calibration curves cannot replace actual Kd from binding curves.

Very happy that Yuzhe won a 2026 W.B. Pearson Medal for Chemistry. This is the highest level of achievement for PhD graduates in Science at Waterloo. Yuzhe has done excellent work in understanding both thermodynamic and kinetic factors in aptamer selection 👏
Check out our review on the Preparation of Microplastics and Nanoplastics published in Environmental Science & Technology. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…
Many thanks to Prof. Wolfgang Fritzsche for inviting me to DNA Nanotechnology 2026 conference in Jena, Germany. Had a great time and many interesting discussions. Jena is a beautiful city, loved it.
About to give my talk at EPFL in Lausanne. Thanks to @AptaWineClub for hosting me.
had a great time in IOCB discussing aptamers and modified aptamers. Thanks @hocekm for hosting my visit.
Did not realize that I reviewed 113 manuscripts for ACS last year, and published 10 papers there. Over worked as a reviewer 🤣
Using the work flow of aptamer docking against the aptamers with known structures, none produced anything close to the actual structure. Fundamental problems include RNA (A) to DNA (B) form conversion, prediction without a target. So, be careful of docking chemrxiv.org/doi/full/10.264…
Glad to share our paper @ChemicalScience
on a dopamine aptamer variant (one base difference) with 6 fold higher affinity. Mapped all variable sites, and it makes sense based on the NMR structure recently solved by @philip_johnson8 and @cdmackereth pubs.rsc.org/en/content/arti…
