Why does my avatar look like Pepe? 🧐 The Blockavatars collection features 10 character types, all automatically generated by the blockchain based on when a block was mined or the type of block. 👌 For example, halving blocks are some of the rarest in the entire Bitcoin network, so the algorithm assigns one of the most iconic characters - Pepe. 🐸 Other significant blocks, like difficulty adjustment blocks, generate a pig🐷, and palindrome blocks create apes🐒 etc. There will only ever be 32 halving blocks, meaning just 32 Pepe variations will exist - so far, only 4 are out!😮 The last halving is expected to happen around the year 2140 - we probably won’t be around by then, but our on-chain algorithm will still generate a new Pepe avatar. 👀 That’s the power of decentralization. Why does my Blockavatar have a black background? Each avatar's background is generated based on the average transaction fees in the block. 🧐 The color scale matches what most of us know from mempool.space... low fees are green/yellow, while red to purple means the mempool is burning with high fees. However, there are many blocks with zero fees. Early blocks mined by Satoshi had no transactions (except the coinbase transaction), resulting in no fees. In mempool, these blocks are black, and the avatars from those blocks also have black backgrounds. Fun fact: there are currently 126,250 black blocks in the Bitcoin network, meaning blocks where the average transaction fee is zero.😲 🫸blockavatars.io🫷
