I wouldn’t be surprised if education has gotten worse, but it’s always been like this. We watched CSI instead of learning biology, and Band of Brothers for US History. Luckily I loved reading on my own. + learning social skills and discipline was a more valuable life skill
Striking detail in the big NYT piece on Taiwanese families adjusting to working at the huge new TSMC chip plant in Arizona: their surprise at the lack of rigor in US schools.

Dublin boom roasted.
Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.

even if you don't buy that "writing is thinking" (which you should), enough people hate reading AI-generated writing that you should avoid it if you care at all about outcomes. volume + velocity are no longer bottlenecks. generating more Stuff will not make people want to read it
it should tell you something that the most bleeding edge ai-pilled technologists are not letting AI write for them

Yeah, as soon as opus 5.5 released, we cleaned up a lot of our plugins etc and removed things that are not needed anymore. There were loads of deletions! This goes especially for orchestrator skills which are always trying to solve point in time problems which are not needed anymore.

“I may think about this movie for the rest of my life” is how I would review everything made by Nathan Fielder.

Abortion is a complex and charged topic. But he answers like a real human being with thoughtfulness and kindness. Such a difference from the typical democratic response over the last 8 years. We need a lot more of this.
I was asked about by a pro-life student why he should support me…

One of my fav lines from any movie ever is from Wayne's World when his ex gives him a present and he says "A gun rack. I don't even own A Gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack."

People are uncomfortable at The Rehearsal s1e1. I’m like, this is the tamest he gets…
All signs point to this doc topping it, but Finding Frances is a masterpiece and the first time you really see how far Nathan can go. The trajectory from ep1 Nathan for you, to this, to the rehearsal has me legit scared for this new documentary

Wonderful advice
Steve Kerr says Roger Federer taught his Warriors team the secret to sustained success wasn’t outworking everyone, it was building a life around your craft you never want to escape from “I’ll tell you a great story about Roger Federer. We were playing in China with the Warriors in 2017. Roger was in Shanghai for the Masters tournament, so we invited him to come speak to the team.” “Draymond Green asked him, ‘How do you sustain success? How have you managed to win majors 20 years after you first won one?’ Everyone was expecting him to say, ‘I work harder than everybody,’ the will, all the clichés.” “Roger Federer says, ‘I get up every morning and I make breakfast for my kids. Then I take them to school and drop them off. Then I go practice tennis for about two hours, and I’ve figured out a really good routine where I don’t destroy my body, but I can get all the work in I need.” “‘Then I go have lunch with my wife. In the evening, we cook dinner together. The kids are all home from school. We ask them about school. There’s so much joy in the house. We put them to bed, and then I put my head on the pillow and go, “Man, that was just a great day.” And I’ve been doing that for 20 years.’” “And it was like, yes. That’s it. That’s the formula. That’s what leads to sustained success. He loves tennis. He loves his family. He loves life. It’s not outworking everybody and banging your head against the wall, ‘I’m going to be better than everybody.’ It’s allowing your natural talent to shine through with a work ethic, with a great family life, with perspective, with peace, with mindfulness.” “It’s perspective. It’s joy. It’s passion. It’s mindfulness. It’s an awareness that we are truly lucky. To get the most out of ourselves, it’s our daily rituals and experiences and love and joy.”

James Dyson is 79 and still finding ways to apply hardcore engineering to random consumer products. He was in fine form pitching Dyson’s new $499 CameraJet toothbrush: “The first toothbrush with a camera. The first toothbrush with a jet. The first toothbrush to find the space between the teeth and floss while you brush.” Dyson says it created an ML algorithm trained on 470,000 mouth images to recognize the gaps to clean with water flossing.

Increasingly convinced that using AI well is a management skill: holding high standards, knowing which details to sweat, choosing focus ... I guess we'll see who has it.
