Grateful for getting employment in this country. Grateful for not giving up and super grateful for everyone who helped me along the way.
I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that I can afford to treat my loved ones, I have my own place here and property back home. I have winter and summer clothes, I have inside shoes and outside shoes, I have a fruit bowl in the living room. I have an investment portfolio and have built so many healthy habits.
2016/17 I was on a downward spiral. Everything I was touching was breaking. For so long I believed I was cursed. I’ve written about many of my messed up experiences. But above all that, I’m truly grateful to have lived long enough to see this version of me. 🤲🏾🍲

For a first time buyer, do not start with a big or fancy car. Start with a car that is cheap to maintain, easy to repair, and easy to sell later.
From what we see every day at Whipcare with real owners in Lagos, these are the cars with the least maintenance stress:
Toyota Corolla 2008 to 2015. The most forgiving first car. Parts are everywhere, any mechanic can fix it, fuel is fair, and it rarely leaves you stranded if you service it on time.
Toyota Camry 4 cylinder 2007 to 2016. Avoid the V6 for your first car. The 4 cylinder is cheaper on fuel, cheaper on parts, and very reliable.
Honda Accord 4 cylinder 2008 to 2015. Strong engine, comfortable, and very durable. Just make sure the gearbox has been serviced.
Toyota Yaris and Hyundai Elantra 2012 to 2016. Small, simple, low fuel, low parts cost. Good if your budget is smaller.
Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent. Very low maintenance if you buy a clean one, but avoid abused ones used for ride hailing without service history.
What to avoid as a first car: German luxury, V6 and V8 engines, turbo cars, and any car with no service history. They will teach you a hard lesson.
Rule for first time buyers: Buy the cleanest Corolla or Camry you can afford, not the biggest car you can afford. Service it every 5,000km, use good oil, and it will serve you.
Before you pay for any car, get it checked. Even a Corolla can be a bad buy if it has flood damage or a bad gearbox.
Whipcare can inspect in Lagos for 50k, with full scan and a clear verdict: BUY IT, NEGOTIATE, or RUN.🧡

The ability to say “I cannot afford that” is an underrated financial skill.

It depends on their budget. But Suzuki Swift or Suzuki Baleno/Toyota Starlet top the list.
