That time Larry Bird decided to play left-handed against the Blazers because, and this is an actual quote, “I’m saving my right hand for the Lakers.”
He put up 47 points, 14 boards, 11 assists. Two nights later, the Celtics beat the Lakers at the Forum.

44 years ago today, Pat Summerall and John Madden called a Division-III college football game.
Wittenberg vs. Baldwin-Wallace
October 3, 1982
During the fall of '82, in the second week of the NFLPA's 57-day players' strike, CBS needed to get creative with its Sunday afternoon programming.
So on October 3, the network sent its top NFL broadcast team of Pat Summerall and John Madden to Springfield, Ohio to call Division-III Wittenberg's game against its rival Baldwin-Wallace — each school with an enrollment then of about 2,000 students.
Three other NFL on CBS broadcast teams were also assigned to call Division-III games that weekend.
Wittenberg, Baldwin-Wallace, and the Ohio Athletic Conference were each paid $10,000 for the game.
The video includes the CBS open and pregame introduction by Pat and John, the first several minutes of the game, and select highlights from this historic CBS broadcast.
A very rare and fascinating telecast — and quite a thrill for those players, coaches, students, and communities.

Barry Melrose - for all the flash and fun you saw, which was so great and so real, is beloved at our place for a different reason.
It’s tempting to call someone like him “The man”. But, more than that, Barry was a man’s man. Someone who carried himself in a manner worthy of sincere admiration because of his foundation.
Treat people with respect and decency and earn it from everyone you meet. Work your ass off without complaint because it’s required to succeed. Which he did. Don’t shrink in the face of adversity but take it head on, which he did until the end.
Beneath the mullet and suits and flash was a kid from a farm in Saskatchewan who carried it with him everywhere. A man. In the very best sense of the word. He was so damn pure and so damn loved.
We’re so lucky this man came our way.

I was lucky to get the chance to talk briefly to Barry about his Cincinnati Stingers time for my future Stingers doc...He truly loved it here and even brought up the Big Red Machine. A class act. RIP Mr. Melrose.

The #Bengals deal for Dexter Lawrence is pending a physical, obviously.
But this is the most out-of-character move by this franchise in a generation.
The urgency and all-in talk this offseason amid years of defensive frustration finally produced a change in philosophy.

I was on the phone with a GM less than an hour ago running through top 10 scenarios. The way we had it going, we both said, “the bengals are screwed.” Well, not anymore. This trade makes a ton of sense for them.

Considering Dayton’s history in this tournament, this is one of the great UD victories I’ve seen. Flyers win 70-69.
