When I publish public polling during an election, I make a point of declining my ballot or leaving it blank. It’s a longstanding practice to keep my own political preferences separate from my work.
Today in Toronto, I cast a blank ballot. #TOpoli

I hear some people worry about the mail-in ballots that weren’t received in time so I went searching for answers and with one exception, I found them. randomactsofurbanism.substac…

In January I wrote that gun owners would be the first ones to leave MAGA (or more specifically, Donald Trump) after Alex Pretti was called a domestic terrorist and shot to death for carrying a legal handgun while filming ICE operations. Since then, other groups have joined the exodus and we are about to see the electoral results next week. brigittepellerin.substack.co…

Sorry to hear of Ray’s passing. We crossed paths a few times. He was always willing to answer questions and offer pointers. Condolences to his family and friends.
Ray Heard, a hard-nosed newshound, passed away at age 91. He has an amazing career. RIP

The BC election is a great reminder that voters are tired of being treated like idiots and will reward and punish politicians accordingly. randomactsofurbanism.substac…
I’m puzzled that while undue influence (especially from developers) is on a lot of people’s minds in municipal politics, we didn’t talk more about ways to prevent it. Earlier this year I took apart Alex Lawson’s lobbying proposal. I got some pushback on my piece, and not just from the Lawson campaign. I still think I’m right, but more than that, I wish we’d discuss these issues a little more in the campaign. randomactsofurbanism.substac…
