No parent should worry that their child will not come home from school.
My heart breaks for Rhoam's family. At 5 years old, he had his whole life ahead of him.
Gun violence is preventable. We do not have to live this way.

The NRA wants you to focus on how this was stopped, but the focus should be on how it started: a system that allowed a gun in the hands of a 16-year-old. By the time anyone could stop him, a 5-year-old, an 8-year-old, an 11-year-old, and their teacher were already dead. That’s not a reminder of anything except what our leaders failed to prevent.
76% of school shooters get their gun from the home.
Parents, and all adults, can keep our homes, schools, and communities safe by always storing all firearms locked, unloaded, and away from ammo.
Safe storage saves lives. Together, we can #EndFamilyFire.
An active shooting at an Oregon elementary school has left multiple people injured, including children.
As we wait to learn more, let's remember what we already know: school shootings are not inevitable; they are not normal; and they are not acceptable. cnn.it/4yhoJCZ
🚨 JUST IN: The ATF is allowing silencers, short-barreled rifles, and “sawed-off” shotguns to be bought or made without a background check nationwide, following a Texas judge’s ruling. The agency’s sweeping move dismantles longstanding safeguards and puts lives at risk.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
As that same letter says on a subsequent page, the affected items still require background checks as any other firearm does (suppressors are also classified as firearms under the Gun Control Act).

In April, the Trump admin proposed 34 ATF rule changes to roll back gun violence protections. Brady advocates weighed in, contributing to the 38k+ public comments submitted.

It's the last day the DOJ can appeal a court ruling that overturned century-old regulations on silencers, short-barreled rifles, and “sawed-off” shotguns. But the agency wasted no time, announcing Thursday that it wouldn't appeal.

Incredibly alarming that DOJ has declared it will not appeal the ruling that struck down the nearly 100-yr-old requirements for silencers, short-barreled rifles, and “sawed-off” shotguns.
These uniquely lethal devices can eviscerate public safety. bit.ly/4xUlxgk
9 years ago, Geena Springmann went to a music festival with her sister and friends. What started as a fun night turned into a nightmare when 1,000 rounds were fired into the crowd.
Now she has one plea: protect our communities from assault weapons.

Today marks the 9th anniversary of the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. when a gunman with an AR-15 killed 60 people and wounded more than 400 others in Las Vegas, NV.
SCOTUS will soon hear arguments challenging assault-weapon bans. But let's be clear—these laws save lives.
Pres. Trump told the DOJ NOT to appeal the federal court ruling that makes it easier to obtain short-barreled firearms & silencers.
We need to get loud — time is running out! Demand AG Todd Blanche appeal this deadly ruling BEFORE the Oct 5 deadline! --> bradyunited.org/nfa
On Friday, the Department of Justice announced that it considers a federal ban on handgun sales to adults under 21 to be unconstitutional.
This provision has protected public safety for generations - this decision will simply make us all less safe.

On Dec. 2, SCOTUS will hear arguments in the challenge against local and state regulations of assault weapons.
There is overwhelming evidence to support these laws' constitutionality and life-saving impact. No matter what, we won't stop fighting to keep our communities safe!

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives lost 25 years ago in horrific attacks, & we honor the courage of those who ran towards danger to save others. May their memory be a blessing.
We must recommit ourselves to protecting one another and strengthen our commitment to a safer America.
Grateful to @SenAlexPadilla, @SenPeterWelch, and all those who signed this letter demanding the Dept. of Justice defend the National Firearms Act!
We must urge the DOJ to protect common-sense regulations that keep Americans safe! bit.ly/46bfLvE
Today is #FirearmSuicidePreventionDay.
Though gun homicides continue to fall, firearm suicides reached an all-time high in 2025.
Practicing secure firearm storage is one of the most effective ways to prevent firearm suicide.

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and Tuesday, Sept. 8, is Firearm Suicide Prevention Day.
On average, 74 people die by firearm suicide every day. Practicing secure firearm storage — locked, unloaded, and separate from ammo — is a key way to prevent firearm suicide.

More than half of all gun deaths in America are suicides. We cannot ignore that reality.
On National Firearm Suicide Prevention Day, we recommit to common-sense gun safety, including safe firearm storage, that can help save lives.
