I was a teacher before law school. I couldn’t convince teenagers to wear deodorant. The idea that teachers are convincing kids that they should get sex changes is utterly ludicrous.

The e-bike licensing/registration safety argument completely falls when you point out that we have thousands of vehicles in the city with unreadable, ghost, or no license plates. The drivers of these vehicles are overrepresented in speeding or illegally parking

Can’t sleep on student newspapers. A few years ago Stanford’s president had to resign because of a freshman’s reporting

“e-bike collision”?
The driver of a giant truck ran over and killed a child
Heartbroken by the death of a 15-year-old following last night’s e-bike collision at East 14th Street and First Avenue. My thoughts are with her loved ones grieving this unimaginable loss, and I’m wishing the other young rider a full recovery.
The investigation remains ongoing, and I am closely following it as we learn more.
"Neither of the teens was wearing a helmet"
Next paragraph: "Bystanders were 'screaming at the truck, 'stop, stop, stop'"
The lack of helmets was not the problem here

I want to address this bc I think it’s important to understand. It’s not just SEC frat bros.
As part of my background reporting, I kept a spreadsheet of maybe 50-60 handles that shared Maddie’s video/screenshots, etc when it first started going viral.
Using various OSINT tools, reverse image search, etc, I tried to ID some of the people behind the accounts. Some were impossible to trace. But not all of them.
The emails, LinkedIns, etc associated with these burner accounts came from all over the country (and, in one case, from the UK).
They were current SEC students, yes, but there were also high school kids, Big 10 kids. Guys in their 20s and 30s. Dads. Husbands. Old-ass men. There was a HUGE range.
These weren’t just UF frat bros dogpiling a sorority girl. They were often many, many years out of college. Grown men from all over the country taking pleasure in one girl’s sexual humiliation.
Because they had the benefit of anonymity, they didn’t think they’d be held accountable for the disgusting things they were doing and saying. And as Maddie’s case proves, they were wrong.

You hit the nail on the head EJ it is ONLY THE SEC BURNERS. Great journalism here honey

Reading the New York Post is really where you get the feel for this Bizarro NYC, where the headlines are like, "NEW YORKERS TO MAMDANI: GET OUTTA HERE!"
Everyone complains about “transplants” and the like, but what they’re complaining about is that the population of NYC is no longer dominated by a bunch of old school ethnic blocs or votes being swung by church leaders and instead has a lot of atomized residents not part of a bloc

Pretty incredible that the New York Times has the manpower to run twice-weekly hit pieces on NYC DSA members but hasn't run a single story (I searched!) on Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn overturning an election to coup the Brooklyn Democratic party.

NYC’s original YIMBY politician, who cut the deal with the *Bloomberg* administration to develop senior housing on the site of Elizabeth Street Garden, has emerged from retirement to decry the reported settlement that would result in no housing being built on the site.
Replying to @CM_MargaretChin
Mayor Mamdani must keep his promise of building affordable senior housing on the ESG site! It was a crime that former Mayor Adam and his DM Mastro illegally switched the site from HPD to Parks!

Replying to @C_Sommerfeldt
In an especially bad sign for Mamdani's pick, John Mangin, Council Public Housing Committee Chair Chris Banks told me today "it would be suicidal" for the Council to confirm him.
Banks noted Speaker Menin's team urged him to reach out to share his views. politico.com/newsletters/new…

I don't know if it's age or what but lately I have noticed a TON of pundits making obvious errors like this that really show they have not even a basic knowledge of politics, it's crazy. People being like "incumbent Rep Reynoso" no!!!
Apparently the Atlantic has continued NY Mag’s tradition of not fact/checking @jonathanchait’s lazy, error-laden columns (Chevalier won a primary for Congress, not state House).
