So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history. Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq

Last week’s IMF’s meetings showed how adrift and without purpose the Bretton Woods system has become. They’d do well to take a leaf from Keynes and @IsabellaMWeber’s anti-fascist economists to find a new purpose in life 👇
Multilateral institutions are in crisis. We need new stabilisation tools for an age of shocks. That's why I'm delighted that @MehreenKhn has read ANTI-FASCIST ECONOMICS and agrees it's time to revive global buffer stocks. 🔗Read the whole @thetimes piece.thetimes.com/business/econom…

Amol is making a day one mistake of launching a YT channel/podcast. It's a disparate set of guests - who is the person who is a fan of 2 hour Gareth Southgate interviews and also Delia Smith? Each might do well (but haven't) but there is no common thread drawn through them
Feels hard to write about the Amol Rajan show without it coming across as being mean, because just over 400 views in 4 hours must be absolutely devastating.

This is what development exists for, and hubris is no replacement for a development process. Interview with a name is not a format, or a strategy, and it misunderstands why other products that feel similar have done well.

He'll get there, nobody remembers that Piers Morgan was a flop on YouTube at first. But he could have skipped past the flop bit.

I know this is nitpicking, but this France news has taught me that people don't know who Napoleon was. Case in point, this is a scene where Napoleon is, on behalf of radical leftists, executing conservatives, monarchists, nobles, and religious people.
This is how the great Napoleon Bonaparte dealt with rioters. Just saying.

Yeh but he did a circus stunt with a car
EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph. The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries. ‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement. But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe. The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown. ‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.

Great failure of British culture that he says Weather Underground but not Angry Brigade
Recently, I’ve taken heavy flak from the usual suspects for refusing to assist in a memorial to 20 men who went to fight with the communist-organised International Brigades. What next? Taxpayer-funded statues of the Viet Cong? The Weather Underground? Or, God forbid, Jamie Driscoll? Not one penny of council taxpayers’ money or time will go towards this absolute nonsense. I’d much rather see public money used to honour the 20,000 patriots from Wearside who answered their actual country’s call in the First World War.
