#ir35 Work in the media sector and got stuffed in 2017 onwards when your customers starting using HMRC's Check Employment Status for Tax tool? The reason is that HMRC CEST tool was based on HMRC's wrong and narrow view of the law - proved by the Atholl house case at the Court of Appeal on 22 April 2022. The case was remitted but many of HMRC's long standing arguments on case law were blown out the water. But, since then HMRC has never updated it's guidelines, or CEST. It gets worse. The tax inspectors have to follow HMRC guidines, which means they are still issuing tax bill based on outdated legal principles that nolonger work. HMRC are telling people to pay up, that they have broken tax laws, but making the rules up themselves. Not a good look. contractorcalculator.co.uk/h…

Sorry everyone! The Chancellor has just confirmed that the IR35 reform repeal won't be going ahead after all next April. Very disappointing. Not only that, but the typical limited company contractor will also face an extra £1000 in Corp Tax from April!
