A fresh sal borer outbreak threatens Madhya Pradesh's forests.

Incidents of paddy stubble burning are being reported from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.
According to a bulletin released on October 6, 2026, by the Consortium for Research on Agroecosystem Monitoring and Modelling from Space (CREAMS) of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), crop residue burning incidents were observed at a total of 287 locations across the seven states between September 15, 2026, and October 6, 2026.

नन्हा अलादीन यूं ही वेला घूम रहा था कि अचानक उसके पैर में कुछ टकराया। पाठकों, आपने एकदम सही गेस किया। वह चिराग ही था!
चिराग गंदा था, इसलिए नन्हा अलादीन उसे घिसने लगा। हे पाठक! आपका गेस इस बार भी सही है। चिराग से पहले धुआं निकला और फिर एक जिन्न प्रकट हुआ।
नन्हा अलादीन आश्चर्य से बोला, “अलादीन का जादुई चिराग!”
जिन्न ने एक झापड़ लगाते हुए मासूमियत से कहा, “सर जी! हाल ही में हिंदी-दिवस बीता है, कृपया हिंदी अपनाएं। आप का नाम अलादीन नहीं, अमर देव है जिसे मुगलों ने बदल कर अलादीन कर दिया है। यह चिराग नहीं बल्कि एक प्रदीप-यंत्र है। एंड लास्ट बट नॉट लीस्ट मैं जिन्न नहीं.. एक प्रेत हूं!”
प्रेत ने कहा, “क्या हुकुम है मेरे आका? सॉरी! आई मीन, क्या आदेश है प्रभु!”
अमर देव बोला, “मैं समय-यंत्र की मदद से समय-यात्रा का इच्छुक हूं!”

अब चौंकने की बारी प्रेत जी की थी। उसने तड़ से अपने कच्छे की जेब से फादर कामिल बुल्के की अंग्रेजी-हिंदी शब्दकोश निकाल कर कहा, “प्रभु टाइम मशीन से टाइम ट्रेवल के लिए इच्छुक हैं! तो ऐसे बोलिए न! इसके लिए इतनी कठिन शब्दावलियों की क्या जरूरत है? टाइम ट्रेवल के लिए यह टाइम सही नहीं है। मैं आपकी इच्छा रेट्रो इमेज कि मदद से पूरी कर सकता हूं।”
इतना कहते हुए प्रेत ने अपने कच्छे की दूसरी जेब से मार्केट में आए सबसे रीसेंट मॉडल का स्मार्टफोन निकालकर अमर देव के सामने रख दिया और बोला, “प्रभु, आप कृपया इस रेट्रो ऐप से अपना सेल्फी लें।”
अमर देव ने सेल्फी ली और देखते ही देखते एआई ने अमर देव का हुलिया अस्सी के दशक के किसी बम्बइया फिलिम के हीरो जैसा कर दिया। चेक वाली शर्ट, बेल-बॉटम पेंट और घुंघराले बाल!
अमर देव ने पूछा, “यह बांगड़ू व्यक्ति कौन है?”
प्रेत बोला, “हे प्रभु यह आपका अस्सी के दशक का रेट्रो इमेज है! चलिए अब हम अपनी यात्रा शुरू करते हैं।”
इतना कहकर वह एक हवाई कालीन ले आया जिस पर सवार होकर दोनों देश भ्रमण पर निकल पड़े। वह एक नदी के ऊपर से उड़ रहे थे जिसका पानी एकदम मैला था और पानी से झाग निकल रहा था। अमर देव ने अपने स्मार्ट फोन के रेट्रो इमेज ऐप से देखा तो नदी एकदम से साफ हो गई। झाग, मैल की जगह वहां मछलिओं और अन्य जलीय जानवर दिख रहे थे। अमर देव को बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ। थोड़ी देर में वह पहाड़ों की चोटियों के ऊपर से उड़ रहे थे। पहाड़ों से बर्फ ग्लेशियर गायब हो गए थे पर रेट्रो ऐप से पूरी चोटियां बर्फ से ढकी दिखीं। जगह-जगह ग्लेशियर दिखे। आगे बढ़ने पर वह किसी आधुनिक महानगर के ऊपर पहुंच गए। नीचे अंतहीन ट्रैफिक जाम लगा हुआ था। पर यह क्या? रेट्रो इमेज ऐप से ट्रैफिक जाम गायब हो गया था।
थोड़ी देर में वे लोग एक धू-धू बंजर के ऊपर से उड़ रहे थे जहां हजारों डम्पर-ट्रक चीटियों की तरह रेंग रहे थे। रेट्रो इमेज ऐप से पूरी जगह घने जंगल से ढक गई थी। आदिवासियों के उत्सव के ढोल की मधुर ध्वनि भी सुनाई पड़ रही थी।
अमर देव को कुछ समझ नहीं आ रहा था कि आखिर यह सब हो क्या रहा है? उसने प्रेत से पूछा, “हे प्रेत, अपनी रेट्रो इमेज यानी अस्सी के दशक में नदियां साफ हैं, जंगल हरे-भरे हैं, पहाड़ बर्फ से ढके हुए हैं, आखिर आज इनकी हालत इतनी खराब क्यों है?”
प्रेत बोला, “प्रभु इसी का नाम विकास है!”
अमर देव ने अपने पूरे अनुभव को अपनी किताब “माई एक्सपेरिमेंट्स विथ डेवलपमेंट” में लिख मारा। कहते हैं इस किताब पर संसद में बहुत हंगामा हुआ और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा को देखते हुए इस किताब के प्रकाशन पर पाबंदी लगा दी गई।

Farmers in Pampore say rodents attracted by a nearby landfill are destroying saffron corms, forcing some to abandon cultivation altogether. Residents estimate that around 120 hectares of farmland have been affected.

हिमाचल प्रदेश के सोलन जिले के बद्दी-बरोटीवाला-नालागढ़ (बीबीएन) औद्योगिक क्षेत्र में प्रदूषण और भूजल के ज्यादा दोहन के खिलाफ स्थानीय लोगों और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं ने 30 सितंबर 2026 को नालागढ़ में प्रदर्शन किया।
प्रदर्शनकारियों का कहना था कि क्षेत्र में तेजी से हो रहे अनियोजित और नियमों की अनदेखी वाले औद्योगिकीकरण से पानी और हवा प्रदूषित हो रहे हैं। इसका असर लोगों और पशुओं की सेहत पर पड़ रहा है। उनका कहना है कि लगातार भूजल निकालने से पानी का स्तर भी नीचे जा रहा है।
स्थानीय लोगों ने कुछ उद्योगों पर आरोप लगाया कि वे बिना साफ किए औद्योगिक कचरे को रिवर्स बोरिंग के जरिए जमीन के अंदर डाल रहे हैं, जिससे भूजल के प्रदूषित होने का खतरा बढ़ रहा है।

दक्षिण भारत के कर्नाटक, तमिलनाडु और केरलम में काम करने वाले प्रवासी मजदूरों पर हुए साउथ इंडिया इंटरस्टेट माइग्रेशन सर्वे 2026 बताता है कि 72 प्रतिशत श्रमिकों का जीवनस्तर पलायन के बाद बेहतर हुआ और आधे से अधिक वहीं बसना चाहते हैं।
इसके बावजूद 73.3 प्रतिशत को कल्याणकारी योजनाओं, 69.2 प्रतिशत को स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं तक पहुंच में दिक्कत है। 86.4 प्रतिशत के पास लिखित रोजगार अनुबंध नहीं, 57.6 प्रतिशत को नकद भुगतान होता है और महिलाओं की मासिक आय पुरुषों से औसतन 3,313 रुपए कम है।
तमिलनाडु में योजनाओं तक पहुंच सबसे बेहतर, कर्नाटक में सबसे कमजोर पाई गई। वन नेशन, वन राशन कार्ड, बहुभाषी हेल्प डेस्क, मजबूत श्रम निरीक्षण और लैंगिक-संवेदनशील नीतियों की सिफारिश की गई है।

Felling has begun in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori forest division after permission was granted to cut nearly 150,000 sal borer-affected trees.
About 2,000 trees have been felled so far, with officials planning to complete the operation by March.
But an expert has questioned whether the decision was backed by adequate scientific assessment and stakeholder consultation.

Permission has been granted to fell sal trees affected by the sal borer in the Amarkantak region of Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori and Anuppur districts.
In February, @hindidown2earth's Bhagirath Srivas (@bsrivas) reported the return of the sal borer in Dindori, where forest officials had identified more than 3,000 affected trees across just 3 hectares.
The situation has now escalated.
According to Surendra Jatav, sub-divisional officer, Dindori Forest Department, the central government has granted permission to fell 146,784 trees in Dindori district.

मध्य प्रदेश के पन्ना में मझगाय, रुंझ बांध, केन-बेतवा लिंक परियोजना और ललितपुर-सिंगरौली रेलमार्ग से प्रभावित आदिवासी किसानों का चिता आंदोलन दसवें दिन और तेज हो गया है।
चिता सत्याग्रह के साथ फांसी और मिट्टी सत्याग्रह शुरू कर प्रशासन पर लोकतंत्र के चीरहरण का आरोप लगाया जा रहा है।
आंदोलनकारियों का कहना है कि डूब क्षेत्र में पानी बढ़ने और मकान तोड़े जाने के बावजूद विस्थापित परिवारों की स्पष्ट सूची, पारदर्शी मुआवजा और पुनर्वास योजना उपलब्ध नहीं है। मुख्यमंत्री द्वारा घोषित 12.50 लाख के पैकेज का पूरा भुगतान न होने, सिंचित जमीन को असंचित दिखाने, कुएं-ट्यूबवेल-मकान का मुआवजा रोकने और पर्यावरणीय प्रभावों की अनदेखी से लोगों में भारी आक्रोश है।
