UNM isn't going to be a sell out tonight, but I won't let prisoner or the moment disappointment or national media acting like they know this market and fan base distract from the reality of the crazy progress that is continuing here. Average home attendance for UNM Lobo football: 2023 — 15,982 2024 — 16,001 2025 — 25,252 2026 — TBD To date, 25,419/game ... With average of 34,581 over final three home games, the 2026 average home attendance for Lobo football will be 30,000 per game ... WITHOUT the bump of the years the instate rivalry with NMSU is on the schedule. Quit making "sell out" the goal and this isn't a negative thing happening here in Albuquerque. This is actually mindboggling for a football program that — let's not stick our heads in the sand — was the reason UNM was't invited into the Pac-12 split. Today, Lobo football is thriving, and that they're headed toward possible averaging 30K attendance this season less than two years after ending a season at 16,000 is a great thing. Strive for sell outs. Of course. But there's no need to act like rapid progress is beneath celebrating in a place where its football program has for too long been what held the athletic department back. It's not doing that anymore. Be happy.
