Working on finishing a new series of smaller paintings now… might merge forces for the next sentinels collection and mix rendering and painting together! One more update!! I’ve been wanting to run prints forever but found the cost/quality to not be great! I finally was able to vibe code a direct print store where I’ll be running open and limited editions from now on! Leaving Pixar was one of the hardest decisions Ive ever made. I had to choose my son and family over all else. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t fill with pride to have been there and love for all the amazing artist that changed me forever… especially the ones who were laid off recently. I wish I could start a studio and just hire everyone.

Somnium = dream

Very very please at the process of inscribing the 12 somnium physical pieces with @TransientLabs ! They helped me close a loop that lets me think both on and off chain way into the future!

The gate is now open… dream on fellow travelers.

Tomorrow is the day!! 08/01 12:01am EST, the gate opens for collectors to acquire one of the physical pieces!! I’ve spent months building these by hand and as much time developing the collector experience to be something I can drive for the next decade! Somniumclouds.io

The countdown begins!… 08/01 12:01 am EST the gateway open and individual sales begin. Here are a few details: 1) theses are hand crafted physical art pieces. The case, the luminaire and the crystal are all meticulously crafted. 2) sales will be available in USD and ETH. (Calculated realtime at checkout based on the USD equivalent) 3) shipping inside the US and Canada is calculated realtime. Sales outside the US are a little more complicated so I’ll work with any owners to find the best solution for shipping, but there will be additional costs. Each box only weighs a few pounds so it should be manageable. 4) each piece has been minted to a custodial wallet and is paired to a physical TRACE chip from transient labs. Provenance is held both on chain and paired physically on the chip. Each piece also ships with its own physical certificate. 5) registered ownership grants access to an encrypted owner gateway. Only 12 of these “keys” will ever exist and it will include benefits like airdrops of new work, and early access to future editions. 6) buyers who purchase in standard currency and choose not to interface with the on chain side can opt in at any point. Provenance will be tracked and managed for all the works. Airdrops won’t be possible to the “normie” side, but the same works will be offered as physicals with a minor overhead cost for shipping. 11) … there is so much more.

Each of the Somnium sentinels has on chain provenance via a custom contract. When I said these are a key I literally mean they are THE key to the future or my work. Very excited for this layer… it’s been many weeks in the making. Once the helm scatters these become lighthouses. Cheers!!

I finally took some time off… to travel with my little family the edge of a sea where clouds don’t tend to grow. My inspiration has exploded ☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️👁️. Somnium is a key to what’s next.

Happy Friday! … p2 … why clouds? ☁️ I’m not quite sure when it started, probably some time before college, basically a lifetime ago. I started to loose myself in the clouds. Probably Pavlovian at this point, when I look up I see ordered chaos… in the way the vapor condenses and reveals the channels of matter flowing through the air. I see the way light moves through the massive constellation of water and ice and dust and am simply mesmerized by them. But that’s not the most compelling part in my mind… what I see most is myself, my hopes and dreams and failures and successes, ebbing and flowing in and out of existence. It lights a fire inside my mind that I have a hard time slowing down some times. I simply get carried away with my head in the clouds. I also find our relationship with them as humans to be fascinating. We see them (hopefully) every day, yet we can’t touch or interact with them. They are a constant in our existence but so many people covet them, as I do, in such a personal yet distant way. No two are the same and every viewpoint exposes a new twist on the atmospheric recipe that makes its way to us to see. I imagine them all together vanishing, being forgotten until someone discovers one tucked away, lonely and waiting. That’s also very much how I see myself. Which is why, when Covid hit I NEEDED to create the sentinels series. As if putting the thoughts on paper would somehow capture them in time for me, so they could not be forgotten. A way to keep hold of the mesmerizing skies as well as the moments in myself that, if I forget to mark, will disappear forever.

Happy Thursday !! I thought today would be a good day to share a little about myself and why I love making art! My name is Matt, I’m currently the cinematic lighting art director for Fortnite cinematics. I started off as a classical painter, but I’ve been a lighter/comp artist for a little over 20 years. I absolutely love the amazing people I’ve had the opportunity to work with over my career. A few of my film creds include Elemwntal, Lightyear, Turning red, Rio, Ice age(s), etc. I’ve also spent a lot of time doing commercial advertising…stressful but also really rewarding. Nike, Budweiser, General Mills… side note… I was also the voice of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch character for many years, gotta love that cinnamilk!! I work pretty much 24/7, because I love it. I don’t consider it work, I consider it a fundamental part of existence! I also feel incredibly grateful to be able to do it. I didn’t really feel like it was worth sharing my personal work for most of my life. Probably a sentiment a lot of my brilliant and talented colleague share. That changed right about the time that COVID hit and also because of NFTs. Not for the profit but because it gave a legitimate platform for digital native work to be loved on, not just be background noise. … next up, I’ll get into the heart of it… the work I make mostly unseen… clouds and what stories are hidden in the images I make. “Mirror” (probably the only self portrait I’ll probably ever do), from my Sentinels series.
