Clerk is absolutely dominating AI search recommendations. ChatGPT, Claude and coding agents love to recommend Clerk. Here's a deep analysis on why they're winning and how you can copy the strategy > Clerk is #1 in AI search for auth. They're mentioned in 64% of answers, more than Auth0, Supabase or Better Auth > AI calls it "the default" and even tells people to use Clerk "unless they have a strong reason not to". Claude says "it's the default for teams that care about time-to-first-working-app". Agents care a lot about time to first value. > Coding agents push Clerk the hardest. Clerk is recommended in 3 of 4 Cursor answers about auth. > The component is doing a lot of the work. For AI, it's very easy to recommend "Drop in their prebuilt component and get 20+ social providers in 5 minutes". The longer it takes to set your product up, the harder for AI to recommend. Create agent evals for time-to-first-value! > Every answer repeats the same idea. Clerk is fast. It "takes minutes to install", "fastest polished setup", "working auth in minutes". In RL, AI is rewarded for getting to the finished product in as little time as possible. > Clerk's free tier shows up in many answers. Becoming the default recommendation requires two things 1) being the fastest path to success and 2) being the easiest to use for agents. With a free tier, agents have no objection to use your product & onboard themselves. > Clerk's site is well optimized for citations. They serve markdown for accept/markdown headers and set the vary: accept header. They are cited in 42% of answers, way ahead of auth0 at 32%. > Clerk wins top of funnel. They are recommended almost every single time someone asks about "best auth for a small next.js app" or similar framework/small team use case. Being tied closely to React and Next.js works well because so many people ask about that stack. > The AI searches for Clerk without being asked. We analyze the exact search queries AI uses, and 20% of them name "Clerk" directly. E.g. "best authentication provider 2026 auth0 clerk supabase firebase comparison". Being around for some years and getting into model weights is a big help for Clerk. > Clerk's pages turn a search into a win. Auth0's don't. When AI reads a Clerk page to answer, it's the top recommendation 50% of the time. When it reads an Auth0 page, they're the top recommendation in only 10%. Getting cited isn't enough, what the AI reads on your page decides if it recommends you! > Clerk publishes answers that answer buyer questions. They have 135 pages under /articles and those get 38% of all Clerk citations. Some URLs are the question itself like "/articles/how-do-i-implement-social-login-for-my-web-app". Create a knowledge base for the questions people type into AI! > Clerk writes its own comparison pages. Clerk vs. Auth0, vs. Firebase, etc. Auth0 has no cited page that mentions Clerk! If you don't write the comparison, somebody else will, and the AI will use theirs. > Clerk explains its own pricing, so the AIs quote the free tier. They serve the page in markdown to coding agents (so it's easy for agents to read!). That's why "50,000 monthly retained users free" appears in so many answers about pricing. Put a clear, quotable number on your pricing page that AI is gonna like! If you're a devtool, create an eval that measures how agents interact with your product. Tell an agent to set up your product and measure 1) number of type errors 2) time it takes to first success and 3) amount of human input needed (e.g. API key). Optimize toward 0. The agents themselves can tell you what you need to improve. Many small details, e.g. shipping the source code together with your SDK, greatly help agents trying to use your product. All results, AI search queries & numbers from this post are from bydefault.so/state-of-ai-sea… Cheers for reading!

ran an AI visibility audit on @PlanetScale. three findings: 1) they completely own their category. ask about mysql or vitess at scale and they are the answer. 2) Postgres is a different story. they shipped it, the models haven't caught up. 3) and the recommendations that do get made? they mostly come from third-party comparison pages. written by other people. about other companies. that third one is the part most teams miss. you don't rank in AI answers, you get cited into them. full walkthrough in the video. if you run a SaaS, already have content and have been grinding on SEO & GEO - DM me, I'll run the same audit on you.

Interesting results from the @composio AI visibility audit
Composio appears in 86% of AI recommendations. Strong result - but the headline hides the real opportunity. It dominates managed authentication queries, yet loses ground on broader buyer questions. Meanwhile, competitors like Nango help control the sources AI tools trust. I took a closer look at one prompt where @composio ranked lower.👇 Want one for your company? DM me your website + 2–3 competitors - or create your own audit for free with @bydefaultso

How to find source gaps & close them
SEO takes months. AI search can move in days. @resend wasn’t recommended for “cheapest email API for an early-stage startup.” Why? AI found better pricing sources for competitors. That’s a source gap - and @bydefaultso helps you find and close it. For the full @resend audit, my co-founder @joshtriedcoding made an in-depth breakdown video.

Comparison blog articles are great and work really well when it comes to AI recommendations.
If you want to influence AI recommendations, comparison pages can often be more valuable than another thought-leadership post. AI assistants need clear sources when users ask: "Supabase vs Convex" "Drizzle vs Prisma" "best backend for a Next.js app" "Supabase alternatives" If you don't publish that source, your competitor will. DM me for a free AI search audit, or check out @bydefaultso

Your buyer may decide before your analytics ever records a visit. → They ask ChatGPT which tool to use. → ChatGPT recommends your competitor. → You are missing from the answer. → They may click them, trust them, or never compare you at all. → You see nothing in Google Analytics. That’s the invisible buyer journey we track at @bydefaultso. Want to see where your SaaS stands in AI search? DM me for a free audit.

A founder quit the last tool like this because it only told him he was losing. Data without a next step is useless. See the gap. Then close it - that's @bydefaultso. Send me your company + 2 competitors. Free AI search audit.

AI visibility for SaaS isn’t just about your own website. For a single prompt, AI models may rely on Reddit, YouTube, Wikipedia, comparison pages, or “best tools” listicles. With @bydefaultso, you can see: which companies get recommended which sources shape those answers where your real visibility gaps are And those gaps are often off-site. We’re currently doing a few manual AI visibility audits for SaaS companies. If you want to see how your company compares to competitors in AI answers, DM me.
This is such a good point. AI visibility gaps often aren’t on your own site. They’re in the Reddit threads, YouTube videos, Wikipedia pages, and “best tools” listicles that models actually cite. You need to see both: who gets recommended and which off-site sources shape the answer. New video on this coming later…

Knowing where you stand in AI visibility is only one side of the equation. Knowing what to do next - and actually improving it - is the other. ByDefault helps with both.
Tracking AI visibility is useful. Knowing what to do about it is much more valuable. The goal with @bydefaultso is simple: Measure → understand the gaps → act → measure again. If you want to know where your company currently stands in AI search, DM me or @joshtriedcoding.

These guys built the cure.
Most companies still guess what content they should publish. But AI search gives you signals: what buyers are asking which sources get cited where competitors show up where your brand is missing That’s the gap @bydefaultso is trying to make actionable. DM me or @joshtriedcoding if you want us to take a look at your company.

woah that's me
Your customers are changing how they search. Instead of comparing 10 websites, they ask ChatGPT which tool they should use. Do you know if your company gets recommended? DM me or @joshtriedcoding and we’ll take a look. @bydefaultso helps you understand where your brand appears in AI search - and where it doesn’t.
