The beloved voice behind Carl Fredricksen in Pixar’s Up, Ed Asner passed away 5 years ago today at age 91 🎈🕊️ Ed Asner was already one of television’s most accomplished actors long before Pixar introduced him to a new generation. A seven-time Emmy winner best known for Lou Grant, he brought decades of experience to Carl, turning the stubborn widower at the heart of Up into a character filled with grief, humor, tenderness, and ultimately hope. Asner remained connected to Carl until the end of his life. He recorded Carl’s Date shortly before his passing, giving audiences one final chapter with the character when the short was eventually released in 2023. Five years later, Carl’s house floating beneath thousands of balloons remains one of Pixar’s most recognizable images, but it was Asner who gave the man inside that house his heart. Thanks for the adventure, Ed 🕯️
