The California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN) has released a new report examining how Alternative Manure Management practices could play a larger role in helping California meet its dairy methane reduction target. The analysis finds that higher adoption scenarios may significantly increase methane reductions and that the Alternative Manure Management Program (AMMP) ranks among the state’s more cost-effective climate investments. CalCAN has released a new report on alternative manure management and California’s dairy methane strategy. The report indicates AMMP could play a larger role than reflected in current modeling

Key Findings include:
- If 50–75% of dairies adopted alternative manure management practices, methane reductions could approach the additional reductions needed to meet 2030 targets.
- Updated calculations indicate AMMP may be more cost-effective than current estimates suggest.
