Not in the industry anymore but you will feel pain on Inauguration Day and with each cabinet appointment. Godspeed.
this is my first time covering a trump win (I was not in the industry in 2016) so I would really love to hear from other journalists (especially journalists of color) about how they're thinking about navigating the next four years

Everyone has so many answers for why Harris lost. How about we start with fixing racism and misogyny? How about y’all tackle that first since y’all have all the answers?

She had policies from homeownership to health care. You chose not to listen.
maybe, just maybe, the democrats should try offering voters a vision of the future or any value proposition besides not being the other guy. just a thought

But the prices were coming down and the prices went up because of who they voted for. The material conditions were changing.

I’m in several Facebook groups where I see white women daily asking for advice on getting an abortion. Then, when election day comes, they vote against their own interests. I will never understand it.

And when Black people say, “We have to be twice as good to get half” this is EXACTLY what we mean. America, you did not surprise me, you just showed us who you really are. #Election2024

Good thing we have that site where we can check. I’ll be doing my due diligence.
Won’t lie if I was the US, I would be reevaluating my friendships with white women unless I knew how they voted Because wtf do you mean?!

In the coming days there's gonna be a lot of opining about what the Harris campaign did wrong, but this election was not an indictment of Kamala Harris. It was an indictment of America.

Black women, please do not protest for anything or anyone other than yourselves, if necessary. Please do not overextend yourselves. Please do not exude grace. Do your best to protect and uplift yourselves, and hold steady.

Dems did everything we could to stop him last time. Restrain him. Keep things functioning *as normal.* I don’t think we should this time. He won. This is what the people voted for. This is what people want. They should get it. It’s the only way people will learn.

I agree that all of these points played a role. I really do. But I also feel this isn't the silver bullet. I really think much of America's indifference to racism, sexism and hatred played an even bigger role. An autopsy will be done from many circles. Yes, I think genocide was ignored. But much of white America sweep so many other things under the rug as well--including the fact that Trump is the most mediocre white man to ever win the presidency and most often country is OK with this. White supremacy prevailed. Most of the country WANT Trump. This is bigger than Kamala or Democratic strategy. This is inconvenient to hear, but we need to sit with this.
This is what happens when you undermine core values, when praising Cheney seems more strategic than respecting your base. This is when you treat genocide like something to sweep under the rug, believing ignoring it leads to the presidency.

Juan Williams on Fox News: "I'm not sold on this idea that oh, it was the cost of eggs. I worry that it was, 'Well, I'm not voting for this woman.' Or 'I'm not voting for this black woman."

they burned ballots in georgia, lost over 3000 mail in ballots and made bomb threats all day which led to make polls closing early and people having no where else to go to vote. if this isn’t voter suppression idk what the fuck is

If you didn’t support Harris, but you’re “against Trump,” please shut up with your Monday morning quarterback tweets. You are the problem,
