Closing supervised consumption sites did not save lives. In @TheTorontoSun op-ed, RNAO CEO Dr. @DorisGrinspun says #HarmReduction remains a critical part of responding to the #ToxicDrugCrisis & is complementary to treatment. "Ontario should restore supervised consumption services as part of a comprehensive, accountable and compassionate system of care. Nurses understand this from daily practice: people must survive long enough to reach treatment, benefit from recovery services and rebuild their lives." How does each country rank in how the climate policies affect human health? @GCHAlliance made a scorecard to find out. 🇨🇦 still has a lot of work to do.

Eric Schiller is an inspiration! At 90, I last some him out biking along the river in the spring. Today, he's getting arrested for his climate protesting so that future generations will have life. Quakers may seem quiet, but they make waves! ctvnews.ca/climate-and-envir…

In this op-ed, RNAO CEO Dr. @DorisGrinspun says that nurses see the consequences for evacuees forced from their homes & for communities blanketed by smoke. #ClimateAction "If Canada is serious about protecting the health and well-being of people today and for generations to come, building a low-carbon economy must become our defining direction." In a letter to the editor in @globeandmail, RNAO CEO Dr. @DorisGrinspun applauds Manitoba’s decision to open the country’s first Indigenous-led supervised consumption services site (SCS) calling it evidence-based and courageous. "Ontario has closed all publicly funded SCS sites, it is heartening to hear Manitoba is listening to what experts have said time and again: #HarmReduction saves lives." Excellent interview @suelebeau
Wildfires are not only an environmental crisis. They are a public health emergency. RNAO President @SueLeBeau1 spoke with @CBCNews' @ramraajh about the urgent need for stronger #ClimateAction and emergency preparedness. #OnPoli "There needs to be planning for natural disasters. That should be part of any organization’s emergency plans." Listen to the full interview: cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-1…

In this op-ed, RNAO CEO Dr. @DorisGrinspun and President @SueLeBeau1 remind us that nurses are guided by a simple principle: prevention is better than treatment. "The same principle should guide governments in responding to #ClimateChange." As devastating wildfires force thousands of Ontarians from their homes across northern Ontario, they call on Premier @fordnation to show the same determination to prevent these catastrophes. The Liberals have used their newly acquired majority to push through major changes to Canada’s laws at the last minute and shut down debate on legislation with major implications for the lives of all Canadians. This is not normal. This is what happens when a government thinks it can act with impunity.

The USA 🇺🇸 under president Donald Trump, is an overall disaster 😑 On the area of #EnvironmentalStewardship Canada 🇨🇦 under @MarkJCarney who many of us thought was an environmentalist has instead shown his clear preferences through horrendous policy decisions 🤔 Our Prime Minister has abandoned the dream of many: #CleanEnergy and an end to #fossilfuels #cdnmedia #cdnpoli
While the Trump administration spends nearly $2 billion of your tax dollars paying foreign companies to abandon American offshore wind projects, China is quietly running away with the future of energy. Last year alone, China installed three times as much wind power capacity as the rest of the world combined. All six of the world's largest wind turbine manufacturers are now Chinese. They have displaced GE and the European firms that once led the industry, and they are flooding global markets while we kneecap our own. China is treating wind power as a national security priority. The United States is treating it as a personal vendetta. President Xi is publicly bragging about wind and solar investments. Meanwhile our administration has stalled more than 150 American wind projects by slow-walking routine military reviews, on top of the billion-dollar payouts. We are not just losing the clean energy race. We are paying foreign oil giants to make sure we lose it. Every wind project killed here is a turbine sold somewhere else, a job created somewhere else, an industry built somewhere else.  Our families deserve a country that builds the future, not one that bribes companies to abandon it. nytimes.com/2026/05/05/busin…

RNAO CEO Dr. Doris Grinspun says that most Canadians understand how some unhealthy behaviours are connected to their health — but many still don’t see the link between fossil fuel use, climate change, and health impacts. “When more pipelines get built, or we will not put an end to fossil fuels, we don’t say what the consequences will be, in human life, in disease, in death and in debt. We are already paying for it.” Read the full story on @thenarwhalca: thenarwhal.ca/climate-change…
