Canopy Access

I'm going to miss filming these #cheetah cubs. Farewell to #Kenya, it's time to move on. It's been an incredible few weeks hanging out in the #Savannah with a fantastic crew, and some world class animals. An all-round life affirming experience.

What's the collective noun for cameras?! Sadly coming to the end of my time filming here in Kenya. We have multiple camera units on this project and it's been an absolute Blast working with so many talented, fun and friendly people. #Kenya #Savannah #Cheetahs #WildlifeDoc

It's a wrap! The end of a ten day climbing shoot in the Costa Rican rainforest. Giant Tree-Trolls are quite a rare sight thankfully. This particularly grubby specimen was caught on camera 140 feet above ground by canopy scientist Andy Whitworth 😂 #NationalGeographic #Documentary

Skull of a spider #monkey killed & eaten by a #raptor here in the #CostaRica #rainforest. Found by scientist & fellow #treeclimber Andy Whitworth at the base of a tree we climbed together a few days ago. Harpy? Crested? The list of Eagles powerful enough to do this is short.

This Cracker Butterfly (Hamadryas) kept me company on my canopy filming platform over the past few weeks. Just another example of the wondrous variety of wildlife to be found - and filmed - in the rainforest canopy. #CostaRica #TheGreenPlanet #DavidAttenborough #BBC #Rainforest

My perch whilst filming in the #rainforest #canopy for David Attenborough's new series #TheGreenPlanet over the past few weeks. This is the kind of camerawork I love best. "What is this life, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare." #BBC

Hugely looking forward to filming with Sir David Attenborough over the next fortnight. This photo was taken 18 yrs ago during his BBC 'Life of Mammals' project. David is such a positive inspiration for us all. Especially now. The planet needs our care & attention more than ever.

Great fun, an absolute pleasure to visit #EdgeHillUni as always!

Really looking forward to visiting @batkesp at #EdgeHillUniversity today to give a talk on filming wildlife in the rainforest canopy. Just got to deal with the M6 first 😂

It was a pleasure to join @raptor_jimmi & everyone at the #NERFxonference in Chester yesterday. So many fascinating talks & great to meet so many like-minded raptor enthusiasts, field researchers and scientists. Raptors in the UK need our help, support and protection! #RaptorAid

So good to be rigging a canopy filming platform here in the UK for once. Just home from 5 weeks in a tropical forest and a bit of English Autumn colour goes a long way!

Spent 14 weeks filming 3 of the birds in this film. Not many companies have the grit to take something like this on, let alone pull it off with such charm and success. Hats off to #Silverbackfilms and @netflix who've created something really special and FUN! Tune in 23rd October.

What a great week we’re having up in the trees with @BiologyEHU. A real pleasure to teach such an interesting and interested group of students. Bring on the last few days of the course...👍 #CanopyAccess

A rather damp start to our @canopyaccess tree climbing course at @ntstourhead this morning. Still beautiful though. Autumn has arrived... #WetterThanAnOttersPocket #stourhead #NationalTrust #TreeClimbing #CanopyFun #CanopyAccess #Arborist #Arboriculture #Forestry #Training

Great to be here in #Brazil - canopy climbing kit unpacked, ready to go. The search for a suitable tree begins. The #Amazon rainforest truly is in a league of its own, where every tree holds a universe in its branches. My kind of place! #BBC #Primates #NaturalHistoryUnit

A snapshot of life in my canopy filming hide. A small camouflaged canvas tent perched atop a metal platform 100 feet up in a tree in the Amazon. Gets hot and stuffy in the tropical heat, but it's worth it when you get to film rare and beautiful animal behaviour. #BBC #Primates

Unsurprisingly, it rains A LOT in the #Amazon flooded forest. My canopy camera position is water-proof to a point, but sooner or later the rain gets in. On the plus side, heavy downpours offer me a chance to grab a bit of much needed fresh air. #BBC #Primates #NaturalHistoryUnit

My son testing the crossbow I'll be using to shoot lines up into trees in the #Amazon #jungle this month. I'll be filming in the flooded forest #canopy, so have to rig climbing ropes from a boat rather than the ground. A logistical challenge! #BBC #NaturalHistoryUnit #Primates
