no hate to op but genuinely none of the people asking this question are old enough/knowledgable in fandom history enough to remember WHY fic drives exist. they’re literally created to avoid fic purges from decimating fundamental texts to the fandoms

The ppl complaining about their fics being distributed despite posting it for free publicly are addicted to metrics and I’d rather they stop writing and go into influencing
i think people have gotten so accustomed to treating ao3 as just another content-hosting site to build an audience around that they've completely lost sight of what it stands for and the archival philosophy behind it
i also think there's a distinction between redistribution for exploitative purposes and a community-organized effort to preserve access during an outage. why is the immediate assumption that this is some deliberate disregard for authors?
