Diffusion is a statistical consequence of random motion. What happens when random motion is *chiral*, e.g. preferring left turns over right turns? In a new paper we show how a non-dissipative "odd diffusivity" emerges, including in chiral active matter. arxiv.org/abs/2103.09958

I do not understand why we tolerate that scientists be allowed to keep their data and software to themselves, and yet publish the results in fields such as medicine or health.
The authors of @TheLancet hydroxychloroquine paper from last wk published a correction addressing many of the issues raised. Their data changed very little and conclusions remain on higher death rate xitter.cf/TheLancet/status/12663… They also need to release the dataset for all to analyze

Just uploaded a video on the Laplacian: youtube.com/watch?v=oEq9ROl9…
If you've heard of the Laplacian and always wondered what it was, or feel like you don't have great intuition for what it means, take a look—we explore how the Laplacian shows up in geometry, physics, & computation.

A maths meme that is actually funny rather than stupid:
Solve carefully!
230 - 220 x 0.5 =
You probably won’t believe it but the answer is 5!

Opinion: I really dislike the proposed new “conference posters”. From a #SciComm view, I think it’s ineffective. From a graphic design perspective, it’s incredibly ugly. Posters are supposed to be conversation starters, nothing to talk about when there’s nothing on the poster.
