In the first Godzilla movie, stopping Godzilla (already a metaphor for the bomb) required humanity to invent an even more horrifying weapon: the Oxygen Destroyer. To break this potentially endless cycle, its inventor took his own life to ensure it would never be used again.

Noriko's story in 'Godzilla Minus Zero' recalls Emiko's in 'Gojira' at times. Especially when the Shikishima's see the destruction wrought by King Ghidorah in Matsumoto and how it informs Noriko's decision to help. It reminded me of Emiko's decision to reveal Serizawa's secret.
