1/4 Monday musings: While changing lifestyle choices can be challenging, focusing on the "low-hanging fruits" of cancer prevention makes a massive impact. From tobacco control and HPV vaccination to maintaining a healthy diet and reducing harmful exposures, prevention truly is the first step. @chipfoundation What lifestyle change do you think is the hardest to adopt, but worth the effort? #CancerPrevention #PublicHealth #HealthyLifestyle #PreventionSavesLives

Your chair might be raising your cancer risk! 'Emerging research suggests extended sedentary time, in and of itself, could increase certain cancer risks -regardless of your weight or physical activity level.' Sitting for hours may be quietly raising cancer risk — even if you exercise. A large 2015 ACS study of 77,000+ women found those who sat ≥6 hours a day had a 10% higher risk of any cancer (and invasive breast cancer) than women who sat under 3 hours. The link held after accounting for body weight and physical activity. Observational study for now, but highly plausible washingtonpost.com/wellness/…

Tuesday Myth Buster | Survivor’s Solitude, Voices of Support MYTH: Once cancer treatment ends, survivors return to normal life. REALITY: The end of treatment doesn't always mean the end of challenges. Survivors may face ongoing health concerns, workplace barriers, emotional distress, and isolation. Cancer survivorship is more than survival—it’s about living with dignity, confidence, and support. Let’s make survivor support programs a priority in hospitals, workplaces, and communities. Share this post and help amplify survivors’ voices. #MondayMythBuster #CancerSurvivorship #CancerCare #SurvivorSupport

The developing world’s cancer burden: practical solutions needed , not just statistics. The way forward requires action across the entire cancer care continuum: Prevent: Control tobacco use and expand HPV vaccination. Detect early: Build awareness, expand evidence-based screening, and speed diagnosis. Make treatment affordable: Stronger public coverage, transparent pricing and access to essential medicines. Bring care closer: Strengthen district services and referral networks. Support beyond treatment: Rehabilitation, palliative care, mental-health support and survivorship plans. Cancer care must be timely, affordable and continuous, not a financial crisis for families. What should we prioritise first? Join the conversation. #CancerCare #CancerControl #PublicHealth #India

This article's broader claim (that GLP-1 drugs are linked to hair loss) is independently supported by a separate, larger real-world cohort study comparing GLP-1RA users against matched controls found that GLP-1RA exposure was associated with an increased risk of androgenetic alopecia and overall non-scarring hair loss at 6 months. However, telogen effluvium and alopecia areata specifically were not statistically significant in that analysis. So the direction of the finding (increased risk of hair loss) is corroborated by more rigorous methodology elsewhere, even if the exact 70% figure is specific to this one small self-report survey. Take-home message: The nuance it doesn't spell out is that 70.4% comes from a small, self-reported sample without a control group, so it's more of a signal than a precise population-wide rate.

DYK: 'Ever-married status may serve as a useful social indicator for cancer risk stratification and prevention.' While the study highlights a significant statistical correlation, researchers and public health experts emphasize several crucial points to avoid misinterpretation: Correlation vs. Causation: The study does not suggest that marriage itself is a biological "cure" or a direct preventative measure for cancer. Social & Behavioral Factors: The disparity is likely driven by social and behavioral pathways. Married individuals often benefit from stronger social support systems, economic stability, shared healthier habits (e.g., diet, exercise), and more consistent engagement with healthcare (screening, timely medical attention). Selection Bias: Experts note that healthier individuals—or those with more social resources—may be more likely to marry in the first place, which is a factor the researchers acknowledged. Targeted Prevention: The authors conclude that marital status is a useful "social stratifier" that public health officials can use to identify populations that may need more targeted outreach, cancer education, and access to screenings.
