🚨 IS ELON MUSK BUYING $EBAY?
$EBAY is up +4.7% today, hitting a new all-time high, right as Elon Musk is publicly backing the idea of an $AMZN competitor.
Building an Amazon competitor from scratch would take years.
Buying eBay gives Musk overnight:
• 136M active buyers
• 2.6B live listings
• A massive global seller network
• Decades of transaction and pricing data
• Existing payments + marketplace infrastructure
Then combine that with X distribution, Grok-powered shopping agents, and X Money.
Suddenly, eBay isn't just an old marketplace.
It becomes the infrastructure for an AI-native commerce platform where agents search, compare, and buy products for you.
Amazon is actively restricting third-party shopping agents.
Musk wants the opposite direction.
If Musk seriously wants to build an Amazon competitor, acquiring $EBAY might be one of the fastest ways to do it.
And the timing of today's move is definitely interesting.

Now Microsoft… who’s next?
In 2001 I said AI was ultimately the end of software and the OS. It got me laughed at.
Welp

Soon SI will just make what you need when you need it, save the code if you want and you can call it Excel or Word. Either way the old world is over.
You won’t believe what I am saying now.

JUST IN: Former SpaceX engineers raised $100M to build self-driving electric freight trains.
Parallel Systems puts batteries and motors directly under shipping containers, letting them move without a traditional locomotive.
-Travels up to 500 miles on a charge
-Recharges in as little as one hour
-Vehicles automatically form and split apart into groups
-Works with standard shipping containers
-Designed to make shorter rail routes competitive with trucks
Parallel is already testing the system across 160 miles of railroad in Georgia.
This is excellent.
When this launches, SpaceX should also release a (private & secure) phone, with their own OS.

@Scobleizer have you seen this?
This was two weeks ago today but, due to recent developments out of France, I want to revisit this interview…
“What is the first lesson in poker, and in life? If you think the other person is the mark, you’re the mark—YOU are the mark! …it might even collapse the whole market…”
—Alex Karp
So we—the tax payers—are the mark… did Karp have a Freudian slip when he said, “all of us…” then cut himself off—is Karp expecting Palantir to be government backstopped?
A look at Palantir’s revenue:
Per Q2 earnings call:
51% gov / 49% private
From:
93% YoY growth
79% YoY growth gov
108% YoY growth private
…but that’s not the whole picture.
2025:
55% YoY growth gov
109% YoY growth private
So Palantir’s government revenue growth accelerated by 24 percentage points YoY, while private sector revenue growth remained essentially flat.
Government is already 51% of their revenue—slightly larger than all private sector clients combined.
If these Q2 growth numbers remain stable, and YoY growth acceleration continues at this rate, government YoY growth will overtake the private sector growth rate in ~18 months, and it’s already half their business.
Things are moving very fast.
A few weeks ago Chinese open models were the catalyst for this dialog—even if disguised as a safety issue—now we have new developments.
How is this effected by the rise of Mistral (France)?
Until now flying largely under the radar, last week’s Mistral release shocked the industry, matching US frontier model performance.
Technically a private company, Mistral gets substantial public funding: Scaleup Europe Fund (EU backed fund), Bpifrance (French state owned investment bank), Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (sovereign wealth fund), EuroHPC JU (another EU entity with public and private investment).
The Chinese open weight models are also heavily government subsidized.
So let’s play this out:
Under the guise of “safety,” but mostly to protect investors, OpenAI (and by extension, Anthropic) get nationalized. Do the investors get a 2008 style bailout? Does Palantir get nationalized?
Does any AI company that doesn’t get nationalized therefore fail? Who can compete with the government? And when I say “can,” I also mean “may.”
Again, under the ruse of “AI safety” are we now back at a regulatory moat, like Altman and Amodei were pining for a few weeks ago—but this time, is Karp on board, if he’s inside the buy out? Was Karp’s real objection before not actually about Altman and Amodei wanting (captured) regulation, but really about who was inside and who was outside the moat?
Given we’re at the midterms, I’ll just throw this in too…
It is kinda' …interesting (?) that the Republicans are running on a “Don’t vote for the Democrats, they’re all Socialists!” platform, what with the government taking a stake in Intel, Westinghouse, U.S. Steel/Nippon and others, Trump is already the most socialist president since FDR. if we also nationalize US frontier models, Trump may be most socialist president in US history.
But the government doesn’t move as fast as tech/private sector. This wouldn’t happen until after the midterms. Then it can be put forward as bipartisan legislation—you know, for our own protection.
BREAKING: Palantir's Alex Karp says OpenAI will never IPO.
His theory: nationalization is the only real exit.
When asked what the S-1 risk factors look like, Karp's answer was simple: there is no S-1.
The liability exposure from frontier AI is so large that no public market can absorb it.
The only entity big enough to backstop it is a government.
If Karp is right, OpenAI doesn't become the next Google.
It becomes a utility. Or a weapon.
The most valuable AI company in the world may have no clean path to public markets.
Is nationalization actually the most likely outcome for frontier AI labs?

This is insanity.
AI should be disrupting healthcare, and collapsing healthcare costs. Absolutely maddening.
🦔The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association says insurers paid out nearly $1 billion more than usual from AI-assisted hospital documentation in 2024-2025. Hospitals use AI to scan records and find secondary diagnoses that human reviewers missed. More diagnoses means higher reimbursements. But treatment levels haven't gone up.
BCBSA's SVP of data science said AI is "identifying more billable conditions, not sicker patients." Insurers now deploy their own AI to deny those same claims. Patients pay for both through higher premiums.
My Take
This might be the most American healthcare story I've ever read. Hospitals bought AI to find more things to bill for. Insurers bought AI to deny those bills. The technology cost money on each end and the tab went straight to patients through higher premiums. A billion dollars moved and no one got any healthier. The only thing that changed was the size of the invoices.
Two sides of a trillion-dollar industry found a new tool to fight over the same pool of money and the person in the hospital bed pays for all of it. Premiums go up, denials go up, and the AI vendors collect from everyone. If you want to know who AI works for, stop reading the press releases and look at where the money goes. In healthcare it went straight into the billing department.

This is very smart.
America’s corporate governance system is broken, and it’s killing public companies. Look no further than Cracker Barrel: Decades of brutal mismanagement have seen one incompetent CEO after another walk away with a massive paycheck while customers and actual shareholders take a beating.
Why does this keep happening? Because proxy advisory firms like ISS are corrupt. They blindly rubber-stamp failing boards year after year, protecting the corporate elite while burning shareholder value to the ground.
The root of the rot is index funds. There's no question that indexing one's money is a smart financial move for most people. But just because you passively index your investments doesn't mean your corporate votes should be handed over to the managers of your fund so they can play politics. Right now, passive funds hold massive, unchecked voting blocks while having zero skin in the game themselves.
It is time for a simple rewrite of the rules: We need to index the votes of index fund investors.
Passive index funds should be forced to automatically split their votes to proportionately mirror those of retail and active institutional shareholders — the people actually doing the research, risking their capital, and fighting for performance in the companies they hold shares in. No more rubber-stamping. A change like this will immediately strip corrupt gatekeepers like ISS of their toxic influence.
True accountability happens when lazy, overpaid boards actually answer to the stakeholders they represent, rather than screwing them over.
Actual, logic-driven governance when your money is passive happens when your vote passively follows the voting decisions of the actual market.
We need to stop letting passive capital protect active incompetence. By stripping index funds of their arbitrary voting power and empowering engaged investors, we will finally torch corporate cronyism and usher American capital markets into a golden age of capitalism.
The Machiavellian Jiu-Jitsu that Sam Altman and Dario Amodei have pulled, rallying the populist fear of AI to rally support for regulation of AI, that would give them a state sanctioned monopoly on AI through regulatory capture, by criminalizing the use of their competition, while holding themselves up as the guardians of “AI safety” is one of the wildest corporate chess-moves I’ve ever seen.
The fact that this places me arguing on the same side as Alex Karp, is just another sign of our upside-down times.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp on CNBC today: closed models can absorb a company’s proprietary knowledge into someone else’s system, while open-weight models let the company keep that knowledge, customization, and control inside its own environment.
"When you use a closed model and you pay for tokens, the reason the tokens are discounted is not so they can grow the market. They’re discounted so that they can get access to their IP, so that their models get better.
And there was functionally no honest conversation about this or disclosure.
Now, that’s point one.
Point two is: without an application layer and without post-training, which is currently being done with open-weight models on the classified side—and it’s just taking off across America because it’s cheaper and ends up being safer, and you control your future and your present"

“A study by the University of Memphis found no significant increases in pollution or temperature in the areas around the Colossus 1 data center in southwest Memphis.”
This is now the third study to reach this same conclusion. It is true that the quality of life in Boxtown is not great. It is a poor neighborhood adjacent to a heavy industry zoned industrial park.
This is also not new. It has been the case for at least half a century. Conditions in Boxtown were not created by @SpaceXAIMemphis
However, xAI has paid ~$13M to the city and ~$13M to the county for 2025 taxes, ~$26M total for the metro area (and will also soon be bringing money to the tax coffers in North Mississippi).
Mayor Paul Young has set aside 25% of the city’s xAI 2025 tax revenue ($3.259M) for neighborhood improvements including re-paving the streets, and assistance of up to $30,000 (0% interest loans that can be forgiven after five years of occupancy) for roofs, HVAC systems, weatherization, and general home improvements, as well as money for general neighbor cleanup, and blight remediation (graffiti removal, etc.).
While xAI is not responsible for the living conditions in Boxtown, they are the first commercial tenant in the adjacent industrial park whose tax contribution will directly and measurably improve the quality of life for their residents.

Hopefully this should kill Dario’s proposal in the cradle, and everyone can get back to work.
🚨CHINA IS NOT JOINING THE AI SLOWDOWN
The claim going around that Xi Jinping supported Dario Amodei's proposal to slow American AI research must be a satirical post.
Xi's real announcement at the BRICS summit said China would help create an open source AI community, support the development and use of large language models, provide AI training and build a shared AI ecosystem across member countries.
China hasn't agreed to slow its research. It's actually preparing to spread Chinese AI models, skills and infrastructure across the Global South.
This is the problem that Amodei has already admitted. American companies can only pace the frontier if their main competitors accept the same limits. China is currently talking about expansion.
