last week one of my coworkers put on a Drake song where he interpolated Chooin' Texas and i felt like i was having an out of body experience. like i was hearing something that broke through from a different dimension
coworker metalcore isn’t even that bad. what’s bad is coworker edm or coworker drake songs. convinced coworkers have access to drake songs that aren’t available to the rest of us.

i like both songs and all of my coworkers' taste in music in general so i'm happy for what i get instead of having a metalcore coworker

You literally live in Brooklyn there was no 2000's nerds vs. hipsters thing you're just making that up because you have nothing more useful to do than think about movies

nerds vs hipsters was a real thing though. you can still find stuff nerds were saying about hipsters online from the 2000s and it's basically the same things you'll see in qrts now if someone gives a mainstream indie movie a bad review or if they like the wrong kind of indie rock

it feels like we're going through a resurgence of a 2000s-style Nerds vs. Hipsters thing, but this time along the lines of a new canon of stuff that everyone online knows (but your "coworker" has never heard of) vs. people in overlapping spaces who "performatively" break from it

similar to what's going on in music: xitter.gq/chronowerks/status/211…
there's a real divide between indie rock fans that like rock music with a weird, not necessarily commercial sound vs. people who like it because the college rock stuff from the 80s and 90s has become classic rock

the kind of political backlash that gets you feeling nostalgic for the slop they were pumping out for idiot republicans in 2009
Does Obama not understand that to most Americans the Cheesecake Factory is a very nice and fancy restaurant?

one of the most CJ-core exhibitions i've ever been to
i'm treating the Anthony McCall show in midtown like i'm at the club, showing the gallery attendant my wristband when i went out in between sets of Line Describing A Cone (1973)

i caught a 12 hour ban for posting this so i just want to assure my followers that these nude photographs of three dimensional light were strictly consensual

i'm getting absolutely outclassed as the "sunglasses on inside" person on the subway by this guy wearing a beret and reading Ulysses

Spank Rock's YoYoYoYoYo was an extremely formative album for me, idk if i would've listened to dance music at all if i hadn't heard this collab he did with Japanther on the album they made with Penny Rimbaud from Crass. it was a great time for weird music crossovers!
When “indie sleaze” was actually happening, it was just called indie. But as the era gets repackaged through playlists, party photos, and Pinterest boards, the Black artists who helped shape the era are being left out. @Santigold, Spank Rock, and @kilokish shed light on the scene they experienced, the boxes the industry put them in, and how the people telling its story shape what gets remembered. Read the full feature by @precious1otus here: pigeonsandplanes.com/read/wh…

i've been on the "i don't watch new movies" wave for a while now. it makes talking to people who assume i keep up with that sort of thing a little bit harder but it's worth the trade off to avoid feeling like i'm being advertised to all the time

and it's not like i'm going to run out of old movies to watch anytime soon lol

making tapes to self-release has given me a new appreciation for how imprecise making physical objects can be: cassettes never have exactly 60 minutes of tape, they can't record too much sub bass, two-sided printing is never exactly lined up, images can't have too much noise, etc

who else remembers when Lex Walton said shoegaze was fascist, and instead of being like "i'm joking" when pressed, she doubled down hard
