i can see hiring managers going from coding interviews to "token efficiency" bounded tasks "solve this with the least tokens used"

i just read this tweet with the theme to the rocketeer playing on my headphones and 2 cups of coffee in my system would recommend
interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works already-clean.goodfire.com/

one of the greatest albums of all time.
I made This Binary Universe 20 years ago for my daughter, for late nights and early mornings, for anyone who needed a little stillness. Now it’s coming home on limited edition vinyl, with a few copies I’m signing myself. Thank you for keeping it close. 💙 Link below

Here's the Skid Row raid criminal complaint. See page 35: a Pasadena house is surveilled. Resident there allegedly has a key to, but does not sleep at, an SRO unit where LAHSA is responsible for CES/PSH voucher leases. That's why HUD's OIG is involved. storage.courtlistener.com/re…

Every now and then you need to spend a night in a dark room with some massive speakers and about 20 people inside This one is Forestlimit in Tokyo which I had wanted to go to for a long time

important reminder to self
New York City has one government: one mayor, one council, one school system. L.A. County has 88 cities, 88 city councils, about 80 school districts, and a county on top. That's part of L.A.'s identity, sure. It's also a big reason Mamdani can get more done than L.A.'s leaders.

I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.

On Sunday, parents across the five boroughs got a night to themselves while NY's Cutest enjoyed free activities with @NYCParks staff at select recreation centers. Free and accessible child care doesn’t just make our city more affordable — it gives NYC parents time back to rest, recharge, or simply enjoy a night out.

Today I'm excited to share an update on @Neko's US expansion. This launch is probably the most consequential milestone in our company's mission to make preventive healthcare accessible at population scale. Modern medicine is extraordinary at fixing you once something has gone wrong. It is almost entirely uninterested in looking before that happens. We've spent the past 8 years building an alternative and we are finally ready to bring it to the US for the first time. Neko NYC opens on 24 September at 300 Lafayette Street in SoHo. A Neko Health Scan is $499. Americans are already spending thousands of dollars to access yearly labs, on-demand scans, or concierge medicine. At Neko, there are no third-party imaging centres, no send-out labs, nobody in the middle taking a cut. We built a completely new healthcare experience ourselves to make it both better and cheaper for you. If you're not familiar with our concept, in one hour you get a full skin check, body composition, EKG, 4-point blood pressure analysis, macro and micro vascular assessment, and comprehensive labs with results before you leave. Then a clinician sits down with you and takes you through every finding, in person, before you leave the building. For about 1.2% of scans we have a direct life-saving intervention. There are already 25,000 New Yorkers in line for a scan. That could mean saving 300 lives in NYC alone. Miami, SF and Washington DC are already under construction. Waitlists for those cities open today (linked in the comments). 🇺🇸
