🧵1/3. Our review of 27 studies on ME/CFS revealed: -Muscle strength is reduced by ~18% in individuals living with ME/CFS compared to control participants; -Muscle endurance is reduced by ~11% in ME/CFS; -Perception of effort during muscle endurance tasks is significantly higher in ME/CFS; -Data are unclear as to whether the reduction in muscle strength in ME/CFS is due to reduced voluntary activation, muscle atrophy, etc.

Prof. Taylor and Dr Latella's initial findings reported at the ANS conference in December suggest that impaired motoneuron behaviour could contribute to muscle weakness in ME/CFS, and the team now plans to explore the mechanisms causing this. meres.uk/taylor064
