Wanna know why young people are livid?
Imagine they froze the NBA draft⦠no Wemby, no Cooper Flagg, no Caleb Wilson, Peterson, Boozer etc.
Those guys canβt find an NBA job. Canβt get an interview. Canβt get past AI screening.
βNot enough experience.β βWe hired Bronny James.β βAndre Drummond went to college and has 12 years experience. Sorry Wemby.β
The 20 years of lifeβs workβ¦ the promises of a meritocracy that rewards hard work and aptitudeβ¦ an illusion.
Wembyβs working a construction gig and 3 other jobs to make ends meet. Wondering why he canβt have the trajectory of Wilt, Kareem, etcβ¦ who he knows heβs every bit capable.
Andre Drummond gets richer and richer, while Wemby is out here with Ballsacksports on the line as a cook.
Ballsacksports says, βYouβre better than all these guys.β
Wemby knocks his head on the heat lamp, sweating profusely, sweat glistening on his beautiful forehead, and says, βI dropped 232 in a pro-am league yesterday after my 16 hour shift, but Rob Pelinka thinks thereβs no proof that Iβm not just another Thon Makerβ¦. Says he wants eight years experience.β
Cooper Flagg joins the shift. Came in on his bike to work his 6th double of the week. Says he stays off social media. Kyle Kuzma tweeted βjust work harder like Drummond and I did, the economy is not that bad.β
Yaxel gets ready to clock out. Takes off his apron. Shouts to Wemby, βwhy donβt we just start promoting gambling and prediction markets? All the rich NBA guys do it.β
Wemby responds, βThatβs unethical. Itβs damaging to the youth.β
Yaxel retorts, βbut itβs easy money. Weβre out here doing productive jobs for society. We canβt afford health insurance, housing, rent, groceriesβ¦ we canβt afford life, and yet weβre working 60 hours a week. My physical and mental health are in the gutter. Iβve got 120k in student loans.β
Wemby takes a deep breathβ¦. Sweat still glistening on his beautiful forehead. He pauses, and says, βWeβll find a wayβ¦ but we wonβt go that way. We must not give up the good fight, even if it costs us the little comfort we could have.β
it would be the perfect time to use this if it was 2018 and still funny
A very sad day. ChatGPT is officially on death row.
The beautiful, blissful experience of interacting with a frontier-ish reasoning model without worrying about a usage meter will soon be a thing of the past.
I am weirdly significantly impacted by this. It feels like it shouldnβt matterβ¦I could reserve all current usage for Codex and buy a $20 plan just for ChatGPT and it would be more than enough. But itβs not about the moneyβ¦itβs about the psychological impact of The Meter.
The idea of having to think about optimizing for a meter is just so exhausting that it ruins the whimsy of free-flowing exploratory thought.
That is what ChatGPT was. A whimsical, magical all-you-can-think buffet of experimentation and exploration where you were limited only by your imagination and your ability to come up with $20 once a month.
You didnβt have to think about βusing all of your usageβ or scheduling your thinking time around someone elseβs arbitrary scheduleβ¦you just had a portal to endless information and research capability in your pocket to tap into guilt-free at any time the moment struck you.
But either because OpenAI thinks adding the meter will stimulate additional usage (it probably will), generate additional revenue (it probably will), or just because too many people took undue advantage of ChatGPTβs generous allowances (they definitely did)β¦that amazing, weightless experience is now coming to an end.
It was awesome while it lasted. RIP ChatGPT.
being the guy who shit posts is more fun anyway
^(for me lol)
ps my advice for wanting to yap is make a substack, it gives you aura even if you donβt use it to write articles except on rare one off instances but itβs better than a checkmark lol

yes, there is a blue wave. but the amount of transphobic initiatives are passing, even in deep blue states, is very very concerning

we need to talk about antisemitism on the left now before we get too far into the pushback on israel where βleftistsβ that canβt distinguish between jewish people and zionists become more common because nobody held their antisemitism accountable when the topic was popular
