One year ago today, the Pre-Trial Integrity Act went into effect in NC, making a significant impact on our community's safety. Those arrested for the most violent offenses now face a judge instead of a magistrate and are held more accountable for their actions. This means fewer dangerous criminals on our streets, thanks to the tireless work of @cmpdchief, @CharMeckDA and the @NCLeg.
Although there’s more work to be done in our judicial system to hold violent criminal accountable for their actions, this is a step in the right direction to protect our officers and safeguard our community. Click the link in our bio to learn more about the Pretrial Integrity Act.

We have life-saving work to highlight! Shout out to @CharlotteFire for collaborating with officers to help save a man’s life. 🚔🚒
On July 28, 2024, Central Division officers responded to a check welfare call for service. The victim’s friends advised they had not seen or spoke to the subject in over a week. Officers responded to an apartment and knocked on the door for several minutes with no results but were able to locate the victim's vehicle in the parking garage. Officers conducted a canvas and determined from a neighbor that the victim was last seen on July 26, 2024. It was determined that the subject has a history of mental health crises. Based on the above factors, officers reasonably believed the subject was inside the apartment in need of medical attention. The Charlotte Fire Department forced entry based on urgent necessity. Officers located the subject inside of the apartment in grave need of medical attention. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening conditions but ultimately survived and is now receiving treatment.
Great job by Officers Waller, Phillips, and Roth-Payton and our colleagues at Charlotte Fire with Engine #4. Without their actions, the victim may not have survived.

Most recently, Officer Simpson was assigned to the K-9 unit and faithfully served alongside his K-9 partner, Levi, for six years. Prior to joining CMPD, Officer Simpson served in the U.S. Navy as an Operation Specialist with the Military Police for four years.
His life and service will never be forgotten. Please say a prayer for Officer Simpson's loved ones and fellow officers during this difficult time.

Hey Dad! I want to be just like you!
K-9 Officer Skipper knew he wanted to join CMPD from an early age. Not only did he want to serve the City of Charlotte, but he saw no better way to honor his father, who also served as a K-9 officer after graduating from the Metropolitan Police K-9 Training Academy in 1984.
Happy Father’s Day from the CMPD. Wishing all the dads the best day!

On March 31, 2007, Officers Jeff Shelton and Sean Clark responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at the Timber Ridge Apartments near Milton Road in east Charlotte.
At about 11:15 p.m., both officers were shot in the parking lot of the apartment complex. They died at Carolinas Medical Center early the next morning, but not before officers picked up Demeatrius Montgomery, who was later charged with their murders. He was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.
The community responded to the officers' deaths with an outpouring of grief, offers of support and thousands of dollars in donations for the slain officers' families. Thousands of citizens lined the funeral procession routes with signs, American flags and tears of grief.
Shelton, 35, had been a part of the police force for six years. Before joining the CMPD, he served in the United States Marine Corps.
Today, we honor their ultimate sacrifice and service to the @CLTgov.
