I like to make a comparison with food when I am trying to explain this to people. Food insecurity, at least in the US is basically a distribution problem. That's why programs like SNAP work well and should be expanded. Housing is not this!
Pretty dishonest, I would say, to make these claims when Wiener originally wrote a stronger bill and then was forced to weaken it by less progressive members of the legislature.
This is a map of which areas of Europe have climates most similar to the California coast btw.
God's chosen country.
Europe's best climates and where to find them, updated.
Calabria FTW, Sicily not so much... Cyprus is surprisingly out because of very hot summers. Madeira and the Canary Islands remain near perfect, of course.
This is the accurate data, with stricter parameters. Apologies for the mix-up: I was on mobile all day and crossed the order of the maps. I meant to publish a comparative 2000-2020-2050.
Not too bad, but still, this is the one truly on point
Probably has slightly more to do with the fact that the National Assembly is in the location I've circled in red while the Elysee Palace is in yellow.

🏘️ Does racial bias shape opposition to new housing construction?
➡️ @cnbecker14 finds that factorial experiments show little evidence of racial bias, while a list experiment reveals concerns about racial change among a meaningful share of respondents doi.org/10.1017/psrm.2026.10…
All of the republicans who tell me they are concerned about "importing the third world" need to take a long look in the mirror because this right here? This is actually what that looks like.
Far from the worst part about this, but it's extra grating because Vance absolutely knows better than this.
He's just lying because he has confidence and enough contempt that his voter base will believe whatever he says.
New paper in @PSRMJournal!
How we measure racial bias is important, but there is no clear agreement (rather a lively methodological debate) among political scientists about the best way to do so.

These results suggest that certain, facially race neutral, concerns raised by residents may be driven or influenced by racial animus.
The paper is open access so give it a read if you're interested! Lots more in the paper than I could fit in the thread, and more in the appendix that I couldn't fit in the paper!
