We officially announced Reeng last month, and since then I’ve received a lot of questions about what inspired it, how the idea came together, and why I chose to build something like this. The story goes back 2–3 years. I’ve always loved fashion, and in 2023 my very first coding project was a tribute to Virgil Abloh, someone whose creativity and cultural impact I deeply admire. That project wasn’t just about code; it was about turning inspiration into something real. Reeng wasn’t born from trying to solve a complex technical problem. It was inspired more by fashion than engineering. I’m not here to say I’m fixing payments or reinventing finance. Payments already exist, and many great products have done incredible work across Africa and beyond. What Reeng does differently is introduce style into how people spend.
