“...For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.”
Galatians 3:21-22 NKJV

The dilemma exists because carnal OSAS separates "eternal security" from authentic regeneration and perseverance:
What Guarantees It? Scripture does not base the guarantee on a past human decision, but on the power and faithfulness of God: believers are "kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation" (1 Pet 1:5; John 10:28–29; Phil 1:6). God guarantees it by sustaining their faith, not by writing a blank check for antinomianism.
The Test of Apostasy (1 John 2:19): If an individual abandons Christ and walks in unrepentant apostasy, Scripture does not conclude they are "a carnal Christian safely going to heaven." John explicitly settles the diagnostic: "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us" (1 John 2:19). Apostasy exposes spurious, unregenerate profession—it does not prove an elect child of God became a reprobate.
Perseverance Is the Proof of Life:"We are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end" (Heb 3:14). Perseverance is not the meritorious cause of salvation, but the inevitable fruit of being born of the Spirit (Ezek 36:27; 1 John 3:9).
The destiny of the elect is settled in Christ (Eph 1:4–5), but that destiny includes being conformed to His image—never an unconditional pass to live in darkness while claiming His name.
Paul commands the assembly: "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves" (2 Cor 13:5)—a command rendered completely meaningless by a doctrine that treats assurance as a static ticket stamped in the past. Scripture knows nothing of an unregenerate saint who lives in habitual defiance while claiming an ironclad guarantee of glory. Where there is true sonship, there is divine chastening (Heb 12:6–8); where there is complete apostasy, there was never the life of Christ. The guarantee of the end is inseparable from the holiness of the walk, for God preserves His saints unto obedience, never in spite of willful rebellion.
“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”
1 Corinthians 1:17 KJV
👉 Water baptism doesn't save you.
The preaching of the cross of Christ saves you.
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. ”
1 Corinthians 1:18 KJV
👉 The preaching of the cross saves.

In light of Reformation Day coming up, John Calvin writes about how Rome wrongly mixes works into the gospel:
"And what else do our modern Papists but thrust upon us, in place of circumcision, trifles of their own invention? The tendency of their whole doctrine is to blend the grace of Christ with the merit of works, which is impossible. Whoever wishes to have the half of Christ, loses the whole.
And yet the Papists think themselves exceedingly acute when they tell us that they ascribe nothing to works, except through the influence of the grace of Christ, as if this were a different error from what was charged on the Galatians.
They did not believe that they had departed from Christ, or relinquished his grace; and yet they lost Christ entirely, when that important part of evangelical doctrine was corrupted.”
- John Calvin (1548) - Commentary on Galatians 5:2
We are saved, being saved, and will be saved right here in two verses.

“...that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, ”

“For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.”
James 2:10-11 NKJV
