My friend, Sir Patrick Stewart, has passed away.
The fact that I was able to truly call him a friend is insane in itself, but it’s true.
He was a lifelong Huddersfield Town supporter, and through my work with them, we came together.
I would bring him the newest gear, talk to his AMAZING wife Sunny (who loved him so much) and listen to stories.
I got to shuttle the two of them around Sacramento one weekend, and it truly was an incredibly fun time.
Over the years, we would talk every Saturday during soccer season. I would always make sure he was set up (he wasn’t Mr Tech), and then we would watch the match. Afterward, we would always have a 2 man postgame show on the phone, but he hosted and I listened.
I could listen to him read the phone book. He was incredibly and unfailingly kind, always asking about me and my family, especially my USC daughter, as he lived in Los Angeles as well.
I am so sad I didn’t have longer to spend with him, I’m sad I never got to talk to him when the team gets promoted, but I’m so incredibly grateful for the time I DID get to spend with the most unlikely friend I’ve ever had.
I grew up idolizing Captain Picard, but the man behind the Captain was even better. I assure you of that.
I will miss the phone ringing and him saying in his big, bellowing English accent:
“WELL HELLO DAVID”
Yeah, he always called me David, insisted I not call him “Sir”, but I always did. Because he deserved it.
Most of all, I’ll just miss my friend.
Be at peace, Sir Patrick.
Thank you for everything.
PS: I hate 2026
Trying to fathom how @WendyFry_ and Homeland Security can be so far apart on details this deported individual.
It appears @CalMatters published with zero work to confirm the deportees story or circumstances.
I have no problem if ICE makes a mistake, I think they've made lots. If ICE is wrong, share that.
Otherwise CalMatters needs a front page retraction and apology from editor @davelesher and ownership.
This is a serious hit to CalMatters nonpartisanship claim and undercuts CalMatters credibility.

NEW: Yesterday, @CalMatters published a sympathetic profile on a “Fresno father” who was “suddenly” deported by ICE to MX. He told the outlet he’s not a criminal & doesn’t know why he was targeted.
However, I’m told by federal sources that he has been deported from the U.S. five times before, he has an active deportation order, he has pending felony aggravated assault charges from November 2025, he has decades old convictions for DUI w/ bodily injury & negligent discharge of a firearm that resulted in prison sentences, and he admitted in a consensual interview w/ ICE that he’s been a member of the Fresno Bulldogs street gang.
I’m told his real name is LUIS ALBERTO ARREGUIN-VILLA, and he was previously deported from the US in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2003, and 2005, and that he admitted in an interview that he last crossed illegally into the U.S. in 2005 near San Ysidro, CA.
Under federal law, illegal re-entry after deportation is a felony via 8 USC 1326. He has illegally re-entered at least five times.
None of this context appears in the Cal Matters report.

Does @KingJames have any thoughts whether Mao (or Xin Xiping) are dictators?

🧘♂️ Don’t even talk to me till I’ve said my morning Kings fan affirmations:
-The Kings do not define me.
-I am more than my team's win-loss record.
-Their failures are not my failures.
-I cannot control what happens on the court, and that is okay.
-I do not have to defend this organization to strangers on the internet.
-I can love this team without allowing it to hurt me.
-Basketball is entertainment.
-My emotional stability is not dependent on a 19-year-old's jump shot.
-I am not responsible for the Sacramento Kings' defensive rotations.
-I am a fan. I am not a hostage.
Kings play the Pelicans Friday! 😅
The mismanagement in every part of CA governance after 8 years of Newsom is actually impressive.

The economic harm to Cuba caused by the US embargo is very small compared to the economic harm to Cuba caused by the Cuban government’s socialist policies.
Replying to @ERodforCongress @AngieNixon
The suffering of Cuba is due to you and your country illegally embargoing them for 60 years. Why don't you stop doing that?
So a neighborhood favorite ice cream shop here in Sacramento painted over a mural. Says they are replacing it with something else. People are losing their shit, talking about lawsuits, boycotts, saying its bringing back pain of Covid,n you name it. What a shitshow.
Business owners: Don't even think about allowing a mural on your property if you dont have have VARA (federal) and CAPA (Calif) waiver signed by the artists.

The thing about Mao Zedong was that he was not just a dictator. He was actually a f***ing idiot to such an extent that it would make Trump’s ridiculous claims of himself being a “stable genius” almost credible.
Mao forced farmers to make steel out of farm tools and in small village furnaces, which left farmers with no tools to work the fields. He forced farmers to chase away insect-eating sparrows, which led yo locust-infested fields. Millions starved to death as a result.
He thought that turning the population on itself in endless struggle was the path to proletariat prosperity - all it had done was to make more starve to death, loss of Chinese know-how across the board and China left on the brink of bankruptcy.
His views on dental hygiene were so off the planet that he eschewed both “modern” or more traditional Chinese modes of dental care, to the point that his doctors and others all mention the rotting stench that emanated from his mouth.
Not all dictators are idiots - Deng Xiaoping was a dictator but not an idiot. But Mao excelled himself in his idiotmaxxing, more a buffoonish Idi Amin than a dangerously bright Emperor Kangxi.

You see that dip in global life expectancy in the 1950s?
That was caused by one man, Mao Zedong.
Mbappe should have apologised only for not being ruder about him.
Listen to the Brewer game on Milwaukee radio.
Come for the game, stay for the continous Tiffany & Crowley ads for the WI governor's race.

Every family has to decide what it can afford. Washington never does. The national debt is over $40 trillion, and it keeps growing while both parties vote for more spending.
My Six Penny Plan is simple: cut six cents from every dollar the federal government spends, and balance the budget in five years. That is real reform.

This is the watch party at Amfam Field in Milwaukee tonight.
To see the game on a screen.
Summer of '82, staying with my Dad in Milwaukee suburbs. He cut hair and drank beer at Lenny's Tavern with various Miller execs and managers, and regularly got primo Brewers tix (plus an infield RV pass for the '82 Miller 200 NASCAR race).
Was able to attend several games that summer. Sitting behind home plate, surrounded by Yount, Molotor, Cooper etc wives and families. The excitrment in Miwaukee was already brewing as the team fired their mgr and started winning. The town was nuts for Rollie Fingers in particular (how do you spell relief - R-O-L-L-I-E). I was back in CA for 8th grade when they made their playoff run. Probably the only Brewer fan at my SoCal school. They were rarely on TV and Bob Eucker was 2000 miles away.
30 years later, one of the last times I was able to get my cancer stricken, baseball nut dad away from home was a Brewer game at the "new" ballfield.
In 2021 I was able to take my boys to their 1st Brewers game. My then 7th grader was impressed by Freddy Peralta's pitching and became a Brewer fan.
That kid played little league since kindergarten, but never pitched. He took the mound for the first time later that year, on a bad travel ball team with no pitchers. The kid is a HS senior this year, and has some college pitching offers.
Watching the Brewers with him this season has been unforgettable. Players playing the game the right way, a crusty but patient old coach, no oversized egos, knocking out the overpaid overhyped Dodgers, a team that keeps guys like Woodruff and Frelick because it feels right.... lots of inspiring messages for an aspiring college pitcher in a very difficult game.
Thank you Milwuakee.
Craziest thing about last night is Brewers 2 run 1st inning was enough for the win. The 5th inning was just a huge insurance policy.
Great defense + pitching from Sacramento area Gasser.
The Brewers are being celebrated like they invented baseball.
They are doing things that have become unusual.
They have an old school tough manager who players love playing for.
They focus on basic easy to understand basic fundamentals.
They have a hitting coach that was an overachieving player for skill that played in the big leagues.
They hit the ball the other way.
They value putting the ball in play.
They adjust their approach based on situation and count.
They are not addicted to exit velocity and launch angle bullshit.
They bunt and steal bases.
They do not have selfish superstars that need to be treated like celebrities.
The Brewers simply play the game how it was meant to be played.

Graham tells Nithya Raman how getting ONE ADU approved in LA turned into a $40,000 sewer repair, an $8,000 sidewalk permit, and a 6-month delay…
“So we go in to try to fix the sewer line. It's $40,000... But to get to the sewer line, you have to break the sidewalk… That was another $8,000. It was a delay of about six months.”
