no, no, it's alright, i guess i just really thought we'd all spend these weeks without ao3 on finding new creative ways to show fic writers appreciation for their craft instead of inventing different discourse shitting on them every six hours, but it's cool, really
here’s a reader link!! it’s dead dove: do not eat, with depictions of apocalypse-typical gore, violence & murder. chapter one is linked below, and there should be comment permissions (i’m new to this whole ellipsus gig)

"You consented to it being downloaded when you posted" yeah downloaded for personal use. I can download shit off netflix. Doesn't mean the creators agreed to me posting the whole show on twt. Idc about yall sharing my fics but stop pretending downloading=distributing in a drive

put it this way: i'm a fanartist, and i'm totally alright with people printing my fanart out for their personal enjoyment. i would not be okay with someone printing out 200 copies of my fanart to hand out for free at an event without my permission or knowledge.

my take on the ao3 google drive drama: preservation and redistribution are two different things. downloading fic for personal use is fine; uploading other people’s work permission to your own archive and distributing the link to thousands of people is a different thing. (1/2)
maybe i’m too woke or maybe it’s just because i’m a freelance writer irl, but i don’t think fanfic authors should be put in the stocks for saying they don’t want their work uploaded to public settings that aren’t ao3. it’s basic copyright infringement laws 😭

the idea of people being mad about authors going “downloading for personal use is fine, but please don’t reupload it elsewhere for redistribution” is absolutely fucking baffling to me. nobody gets mad at artists for asking for no reuploads lmao

most fic writers don’t want engagement to “get famous” or anything. it’s just that when you put your heart into something, it feels good to know people liked and enjoyed it. it also helps motivation to write more. if you ignore fic writers, there won’t be any more fics to read🤷♀️
Authors absolutely decide how they want their fics shared no two ways about it and common courtesy dictates you follow their personal leads on that... it's not hard. Sometimes a difference of opinion need not be argued and just accepted and moved on from.
Just saying.

some authors may be uncomfortable having their work shared *widely* outside of ao3 bc they prefer control over context, tags, edits, deletion. it's not about status and kudos. and if it IS abt feedback, so what? that's how you know you moved someone. it's part of the joy of it
just saying, i am MORE than happy for youse to share epubs & downloads of my fics privately, within the tsitp community but pls don’t put them on public settings :) that data is out of my control & i don’t want to lose ownership over writing i’ve worked hard on 💘
