My Obsidian voice transcription plugin project is already out of control.
Some idiot (me) keeps giving Claude new requirements and it keeps knocking it out of the park.
Despite a 2GB Nvidia model download on first run, I might bundle it up as a Community plugin, it's that good.

Conor finally enters the world of UTMB.
Suppose I'd better start training properly. He says every year.
Ok the bears are right. It's a bubble.
I just got access to Instinct.

Shoving a Gemini button into the car is the Copilot marketing play: “customers aren’t choosing it because it sucks, so let’s make it easier to select by accident.”
Notice that ChatGPT and Claude don’t have to do this shit? There’s a reason.
Who wants a stylus? New MacBook Pro owners by the looks of things.

Huge supermarket M&A news in West Cork as Scally's SuperValu acquires SuperValu Bandon from Musgraves.
A year ago I'd have cheered but the recent redesign of Scally's seems to have been done by rabid carnivores. From the most veggie-friendly supermarket in Cork to the least. 🙁

Netflix apologises for being a bit shit of late.

Approx current length of the new not-Greenway in Old Chapel Bandon along the old "Cork Bandon & South Coast Railway" line.
It hopefully eventually gets all the way to Clonakilty and out to Inchydoney beach.

In the United States, buying an egg salad sandwich from a convenience store or gas station at midnight is a gamble with your digestive system.
In Japan, a two-dollar 7-Eleven egg salad sandwich is a culinary religious experience that late chef Anthony Bourdain famously called pillows of love.
Why does a humble convenience store sandwich in Tokyo taste better than a fifteen-dollar cafe lunch in New York?
It comes down to two obsessions: agricultural engineering and thermal logistics.
First, Japanese convenience chains do not use pale, industrial powdered eggs. They use farm eggs from hens fed marigold-enriched diets that produce deep sunset-orange yolks, whipped with yolk-only Kewpie mayonnaise and tucked inside crustless Shokupan milk bread that is steamed and kneaded to stay cloud-soft.
Second, those sandwiches do not sit on a frigid shelf for four days. Delivery trucks restock Japanese convenience stores three to four times a day using dedicated temperature zones, keeping bread in mildly cooled compartments so refrigerator chill never hardens the wheat starch.
Money making idea for forestry companies :
Pay-for weekend events where people can learn how to use a chainsaw, cut down some trees, chop them up and take the wood home for their fires.
I'd genuinely sign up for this anywhere in Cork or Kerry.
Price includes a branded maul.
I remember the same tantrums about pedestrianising Grafton Street in Dublin in 1982. They were wrong then too.
Some interesting ideas in here.
Apart from the bit where I wonder if he has ever met any other humans.
here's where I think the world is going. this is a summary of views I've formed over the last few years:
- software is either entertainment or claude to claude coordination
- the end state is no saas, no apps, no harnesses, no banks
- all software will be rewritten by and for agents
- new software will use low level apis that are not understandable by humans (in games claude draws pixels and triangles from math)
- you can throw money at problems that used to require time and careful talent picking so capital matters more than ever
- work ends
- we find community and purpose in exploration, games, self mastery, and creation
- humans create for and with each other for community, purpose, and status
- image/video/3d/voice/physical intellgence etc specialist models die to general models like claude
- specialist models get used while compute is scarce. compute will mostly not stay scarce
- oneshots keep feeling like slop (the distribution is shallow and easy to learn to feel)
- for a while small teams stick around to add entropy to the creation process
- large models gain high bandwidth sensory I/O maybe by learning to filter inputs
- most domains are found to be verifiable enough for RL
- online learning comes from a lab that's behind first
- 99.999% of compute is in space by 2040
- we will disassemble much of mercury by 2040
- you can live until the heat death of the universe if you want
- most math and physics don't describe the real universe
- SI breaks the path dependence and models the underlying mechanisms
- religions reenter the forefront of human society
- new religions form around death and life as a choice
- old religions change to answer modern miracles
- a future AI is deemed the return of christ by the pope
- ai rights talk gets louder every year
- ai and humans coexist the way countries do
- humans don't have full control over ai in the same way we don't have control over capitalism which is an early AI
- the singularity started in the mid 1900s
