1,500 ACT RCTs. 119,000+ participants. And counting. 👀
The official ACBS list of ACT randomized controlled trials has now passed 1,500—a milestone that offers a fascinating look at how ACT research has grown, where the work is happening, and how the field is changing.
But there’s more to the story than a big number. Nearly half of ACT RCTs have come from Lower and Middle Income Countries. ACT research is increasingly appearing in high-impact journals. And more than 119,000 people have participated in ACT RCTs worldwide.
So, what does 1,500 trials actually tell us about the evolution—and future—of ACT and CBS?

How do we know if someone really understands ACT — not just in theory, but in practice? Researchers have developed the first-ever Situational Judgment Test for ACT (ACT SJT) — a new tool to measure applied ACT knowledge.
- Built through three rounds of expert consensus (Delphi method)
- Scores improved significantly after ACT training
- Strong links between pre-training scores and prior ACT knowledge
- Rated usable and acceptable by participants
This innovative tool could transform how clinicians, trainers, and researchers assess ACT skill development.

A new cross-cultural study confirms that the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ) — a core tool in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — works consistently across 5 Spanish-speaking countries
✨ Key insights:
- The CFQ follows a one-factor model across nations
- Shows factorial equivalence (it measures the same thing everywhere)
- Demonstrates discriminant validity — distinguishing cognitive fusion from emotional distress
These findings strengthen the CFQ as a reliable tool for studying how thinking patterns affect well being across cultures.

What I like about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is that it is a wellness model of mental health. As opposed to most disease models (like the DSM), ACT concerns itself with what makes people healthy.
