In 1986 a guy got kicked out of every casino in Vegas for counting cards. So he flew to Hong Kong with $180,000 and started betting on horses instead. He walked away with almost $900 million. It was Bill Benter. He realized horse racing was just another counting problem same math, more moving parts. He and a partner built a computer model that estimated the true odds of each horse. If his numbers showed an edge, he bet. If not, he skipped it. That’s the whole trick: Expected value. EV = p · b − (1 − p) Only bet when the probability of winning × the potential payout is greater than the chance of losing. What’s even crazier is that Benter once gave a 45-minute lecture explaining the math behind his system. That recording was never supposed to become public. And almost nobody knows it exists. This is the lecture that professional bettors and hedge fund analysts studied. The answer is in this video.

OMFG! This response from @AbdulElSayed to a completely bigoted question is probably the best thing I’ve heard all year. Every bigot in America needs to listen to this three times.

AMAZING! Republican election officials denied NC A&T campus an early-voting site. Students marched about 45 minutes each way to vote ANYWAY! Put up barriers to voting, and don’t be surprised when people get angry, get organized, and bring even MORE voters to the polls!

Hiring Tony Robbins today costs 1 million dollars for just one day. This is a 21-minute tape recorded in his own home more than 30 years ago. There, he explains exactly how to get anyone to say yes. The same material for which they now charge a fortune... completely free. It's a rare, unfiltered recording from the time when he still didn't charge millionaires just for being in the same room. When someone says no, they give two excuses: “I don’t have time” or “I don’t have money” Neither is true. The real reason is that they still don’t believe it’s worth it. It’s not a money problem. It’s a state problem. Tony teaches something he calls “attack and confess” Instead of arguing the objection, you confess your own: “I had the chance to go six months ago and I didn’t until two months ago. I can’t even imagine the time I wasted” The room goes silent. No one argues. Then he gets the person on the “yes train” Each little yes adds to the next. Until saying no at the end feels harder than saying yes. When it’s time to sign, the person has already said yes five times without realizing it. Just 21 minutes. There you learn the two only moves that people pay 1 million a day for: how to read anyone’s state… and how to shift it. Most people spend years guessing in sales. He wrote it on a flipchart in his living room in less than half an hour. A seat in that room cost $125 dollars. Today it costs $1 million dollars a day to sit in front of him. The tape is free right now. And the answer is in this video.

“Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys” - Fyodor Dostoevsky, 1864 In his 1864 novella Notes from Underground, Fyodor Dostoevsky explores the tendency of people to dwell on their suffering while barely noticing the ordinary joys surrounding them. People often remember disappointments, failures, and grievances in great detail, yet overlook the quiet moments of happiness and contentment that also shape their lives. By focusing so heavily on what has gone wrong, a person can become trapped in resentment and dissatisfaction. Dostoevsky’s observation suggests that if people paid as much attention to their moments of happiness as they do to their hardships, they might discover that life contains far more joy than they realize—even amid struggle.

“The books that world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.” - Oscar Wilde Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) was an Irish poet, novelist, and playwright who became one of the most prominent literary figures of the Victorian era. Known for his sharp wit, clever satire, and memorable paradoxes, Wilde used humor to examine human behavior and challenge hypocrisy, vanity, and rigid social expectations. Among his best-known works are The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Importance of Being Earnest, Lady Windermere’s Fan, and De Profundis. His writing frequently explored the tension between outward appearances and hidden realities, often transforming everyday observations into deeper reflections on society and human nature. Wilde valued individuality, beauty, artistic expression, and the freedom to live authentically. His personal life, however, was shaped by controversy and persecution over his homosexuality. In 1895, he was convicted of “gross indecency” and sentenced to two years of hard labor, an experience that profoundly affected the final years of his life.
