One of 19 Marbled White butterflies - the most I’ve ever seen - on a brownfield site in East London today. Don’t write off such ‘scrubby’ sites as valueless for nature. They can be some of the best. @savebutterflies @RoseNWF @FWP2009 @essexbna
#iamagoodspotter #greywagtail in cherry trees near the Tube station. Juvie. Was alerted and then verified by call. Mum was calling nearby.

"To the romantics amongst us, it feels as though nettle has resisted industrialisation ... To me it is ‘the fibre of the landless’, the most readily available high quality textile fibre that grows wild and can be easily foraged."
This is everything that is good. #nettles
'By the time I’d spun enough nettle yarn to attempt weaving the cloth (14,400 ft of thread...) I’d been spinning for about seven years'

Not great photos but confirmed by @MadgwickTony as Scarce Chaser spotted today @WansteadFlats
Don’t take his word for it: it’s an ace photo.
No matter how poor the photo you have to post an image of your first Wheatear of the year - it’s always a special moment, despite the poor weather! #londonbirds
I don’t understand how this works. I rang #VirginMedia today to cancel my account with them. And thought I’d succeeded. Then I get this! How muddy and messy can they make it?
This is how it looks when you *try* to cancel your broadband and landline contract with #virginmedia. I rang today, but it matters not. They will still bill me again in April.

"We have this lunatic state of affairs in Northern Ireland where everybody knows who the gangster godfathers in their own areas are. The bosses of proscribed organisations.
"It’s not just that the authorities turn a blind eye to all this. It’s worse. They actually enable it."

A reminder that if you value a tree near you then make sure there’s a Tree Preservation Order on it. Private or public. Easy to request via your local council. Anyone can do it.
Choose images with care. This one (from a British Gas landing page) says to me: “No gas. Using candles!” But I’m a cynic, after all…

Somehow I managed to find 6 denarius in 2022, previous high count was 2005 when I found 3.
The details remaining on this coin after nearly 2000 years lost are quite incredible.
I am led to believe its Vespasian with PAX reverse, AD 71.

My Wanstead bird of 2022 - Dartford Warbler. It felt good to finally add this to the patch list after a gap of 13 years since the last one. This narrowly beat Tree Sparrow & Merlin (my other two patch ticks) #londonbirds
Here's how I'd fix the £60bn hole in the public finances:
💰Scrap Northern Rail Projects for £17bn
💰Scrap HS2 East for £13bn
💰Tie benefits to wages for £5bn
💰+£33bn in other measures
Fix it yourself with the @Telegraph's tool here: telegraph.co.uk/business/eco…

It truly never occurred to me to think about the colour of his skin or his heritage. Cheers all you peeps for pointing out what appears to be obvious to so many (but not to me). #RishiSunak
