Excited to announce that I've accepted a position as a sports dietitian with @RaysBaseball upon graduation, working with their FCL complex and Dominican Republic academy. Can't wait to get to work with an amazing player development team!

Ultimately, Reading research without the ability to effectively interpret the findings of the statistical analysis is basically allowing somebody else to think for you. Reading research without the ability to effectively interpret it is like whip cream on 💩

Finally. BE CRITICAL. Not all research is created equal and research never PROVES anything. It supports hypotheses. Make your own interpretations and remove your bias before reading, which is lot easier said than done.

Essentially, effect size estimates the degree to which the intervention influenced the outcome. When applying research to your training use studies that demonstrated BOTH statistical significance and a large effect size (for Cohen's d we are looking for values greater than 0.8).
1
Yes, statistical significance is important but what is the point of reaching significance if the difference between the groups is minuscule? To further your understanding on effect size get on the google machine and search "Cohen's d."

2) Effect size is emphasized, presented, and interpreted in the article. Effect size is a measure of meaningfulness of the difference between two means or groups. Too many articles use p-value, or statistical significance, to support the outcome measures of a study.

1) Exploratory data analysis. Researchers that perform EDA and include the details of the analysis in the article increase transparency and show a more thoughtful approach to methodology. Researchers that do this also have a better appreciation for effect size, IMO.

With so many coaches in the player development realm turning to research to drive their programming and application, the interpretation and dissemination of research has never been more important. Here are two simple things to look for in research to help identify quality 🧵

And most importantly, thank you @eltrav42! My skill set would not be what it is today if it wasn't for Travis' relentless ability to make me ask questions and dig deeper into their application. I have been truly blessed for the last three years and looked forward to the next step

I'd also like to thank all the people who fed every one of my curiosities over the past three years and helped propel me into a position where I could accept this roll. From baseball, physiology, motor learning, or research I cannot fully express my appreciation to all of you.

I would also like to thank @Dixie_Baseball and all the incredible people I was able to work with and learn from during my time at @DixieState. Making the decision to come here was by far one of the best I have ever made.

Ultimately, there is no such thing as perfect mechanics, but there is such a thing as the most efficient set of mechanics for YOU. Understanding your structure & limitations helps not only identify an effective training plan but customize/adapt your mechanics accordingly.🧐 10/

Nobody will ever be a better coach to you than you are to yourself. Learn about how your body and brain work so you can become your own best advocate. The most coachable athletes are the ones who've done their homework to earn a seat at the table in planning their own training.

I’ve always noticed that the athletes with great body awareness had a much greater ability to adapt become more efficient 🔥🔥 – at St George, UT
Replying to @TreadAthletics
In other words, they are free of major movement limitations which supports them having amazing feel/body awareness (proprioception) which they display in their mechanics. To me, this body control/awareness is a core tenet of athleticism - even more so than speed/power/strength.
