"Albanese has done nothing more than speak" — Justice Richard J. Leon. US court temporarily blocks Trump's "vastly over inclusive" sanctions against UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine @FranceskAlbs on freedom of speech grounds. Will Europe now act? Albanese had submitted reports denouncing Israel's mass killing and ethnic cleansing. She also named US companies such as Google and Palantir who facilitated Israel's actions. The ruling was made by senior DC judge Richard D. Leon who was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2002. US sanctions are still active against European and Canadian ICC judges (the legality of which was not considered) and punitive measures against Albanese could be reimposed during subsequent hearings. The EU can block the sanctions using its "blocking statute" — a move Spain's government said it would back. But will it?
Francesca Albanese is trying to stop a genocide. That is her crime. The United States and Israel are trying to stop her – by destroying her life, her career, her family, and her voice. The US has sanctioned UN Special Rapporteur @FranceskAlbs along with 8 ICC judges, 3 court officials, and Palestinian human rights organisations Al-Haq, Al Mezan, and PCHR. The message is chilling: investigate genocide and we will destroy your life.

One year ago today, Julian Assange began his 48-hour journey to freedom, leaving Belmarsh prison in the United Kingdom and boarding a jet bound for Australia via the remote U.S. island of Saipan. “365 days have passed, but we are light years away from Belmarsh prison. To all the supporters who helped make this possible — there are no words to express how grateful we are to have Julian free.” - Stella Assange

Keir Starmer’s government has announced that it will ban British protest group Palestine Action using ‘terrorism’ laws. The group is paying for its success in targeting Israel’s largest weapons company, Elbit Systems, which directly lobbied British authorities to crack down on the activists. Israel’s embassy in London appears to have also pressured the British government to intervene in Palestine Action court cases, although relevant documents released under FOI were heavily redacted as they “would be likely to prejudice the UK’s relations with Israel.” Now Elbit and Israel have got their way, and for the first time a protest organisation will be banned (on 30 June) in Britain under the Terrorism Act, alongside groups like Islamic State and al-Qaida.

Mahmoud Khalil is finally free! He was targeted solely for speaking out against U.S.-backed genocide. His release is a victory for everyone fighting for our First Amendment rights, our immigrant neighbors, and Palestinian freedom.
Replying to @MeghnadBose93
Dr. Noor Abdalla, Mahmoud Khalil's wife, reacts to the court ordering Khalil's release, "After more than three months, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief and know that Mahmoud is on his way home to me and Deen, who never should have been separated from his father." She adds, "We know this ruling does not begin to address the injustices the Trump administration has brought upon our family, and so many others the government is trying to silence for speaking out against Israel's ongoing genocide against Palestinians. But today, we are celebrating Mahmoud coming back to New York to be reunited with our little family, and the community that has supported us since the day he was unjustly taken for speaking out for Palestinian freedom." @DropSiteNews

🧵We are deeply alarmed by reports of federal and local law enforcement using force against the press at the L.A. protests. Journalists fulfill a vital public duty by documenting events and keeping the public informed. Reporting is a core function of a free and democratic society

Over 218 Palestinian journalists have been killed in the #Gaza Strip since the beginning of #Israel’s war on 7 October. Under any circumstances, NOTHING justifies the targeting of journalists.
