To all those who believe (and act as if) Covid is "over" – the US just hit *1 million new Covid cases a week*. 1 million. Every week. Can you read that and still believe it's "over"? If you can, what does that say about you?

Today I’m taking my 18 year old son to vote for the first time. We’re voting for his mother. We’re voting for his sisters. We’re voting for equality. We’re voting for decency. We’re voting Against MAGA.

I’ve met a staggering number of adult professionals with long COVID who’ve had to uproot and move in with family just to make ends meet. Others don’t even have that option. This disease is massively disabling and decimating our workforce. We need solutions, not denial. motherjones.com/politics/202…

Only Black folks get 4 hour lines. No lines in the exburbs ever!!! They are true heroes because they have to deal with that bullshit every time.
Voter Suppression is alive and well in the USA, It’s absolutely ridiculous that you have to stand in a lines like this to Vote.. Thanks to these hardy folks for hanging there!! , enough is enough. We need change!!

Iowa voter: I am so fed up with the way things are going. I’ve voted for every Republican since I was 18 years old. This year, I voted for every Democrat. If there was one under a rock, I’d vote for them today.

Letting Covid rip through the population and creating a mass disabling event is very much violence as well Violence that's been normalized and enforced by almost everyone...

How many times do we have to explain this? What part of your brain switched off and convinced you COVID just packed its bags and disappeared? When a magician shows you an empty top hat, do you genuinely believe the rabbit ceased to exist? COVID didn’t disappear. We stopped looking for it, stopped talking about it, and somehow confused silence with safety. Stop calling this a “post-COVID world.” We’re post-emergency declarations. Post-precautions. Post-giving-a-damn, apparently. But we are NOT post-COVID. The rabbit is still here. And at this point, I’m starting to think it’s the only one with object permanence. 🐇🎩

5. Risk analysis and mitigation is not rooted in fear. It is rooted in the ability to understand the variables of a changed environment and adapt to them. That is to say, risk analysis and mitigation is based in facing reality head-on. This is a rare and valuable skill. /end

4. Mitigating such a risk is quite obviously rational. I have noticed a resurgence on this platform of people casting those who mitigate as fearful, or anxious, or suffering from OCD. Ignore people who say this.

3. Beyond even Long Covid, and as I previously noted, I consider it highly likely that a virus that has the capacity to both adversely affect cognition and re-infect a seemingly limitless number of times will likely be a serious risk factor for future neurocognitive disease.

2. Fundamentally, this is why I avoid infection. I value my physical and cognitive health, as I suspect the majority of people do. I understand the data on Long Covid prevalence, and, personally, I know many people who have it. This hard data and my own experience drives me.

1. The bottom line: SARS-CoV-2 only emerged in late 2019. No-one can know the long-term effects of repeated infections, but with anosmia and cognitive dysfunction as common symptoms, the assumption I make is that there is a tsunami of early-onset neurocognitive diseases coming.

So we’re acknowledging some things now. Cool. Let’s acknowledge that it’s still here. Let’s acknowledge that we’re doing nothing to stop repeat infections and we’re still burying first-wavers and guaranteeing everyone develops persistent chronic infection, including children.
Covid constitutes the largest mass disabling event in the United States since the Americans with Disabilities Act became law in 1990. Now, the Trump administration’s anti-worker and anti-disability turn has created a climate of fear and difficulty around Long Covid accommodations. motherjones.com/politics/202…

Hi Dr. Dean. I wear an FFP2 mask in all public indoor spaces. I use NAAT testing to test guests to my home. This takes about 30 minutes then, if -ve, guests umask. To the best of my knowledge, I have never had Covid-19. In fact, I have not had so much as a cold since early 2019.
Do you guys wear N95 masks in all public spaces? Do you let people into your homes without masks?

Pleased to meet you, Leo. I live in Northern Ireland and wear a FFP2 mask in all public indoor spaces.
Has anyone ever come across a Covid-crazy like this in the UK? It seems to be a specifically yank thing.

University of Hong Kong researchers analyzed 40 airplane outbreaks of COVID-19 and flu. Infection risk was highest near infected passengers. Models found N95 masks nearly eliminated transmission, while doubling ventilation alone was insufficient. pubs.acs.org/esthag/article/…
